About This Position

Description:

Employment Status: Full-Time*

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt (Hourly)

Schedule: ex: Monday – Friday 8 am – 5pm / 40 hours per week (Flexible work hours)

Reports to: Director of Parish Operations

Summary:

The Custodian fulfills the mission of the parish by assisting in maintaining the cleanliness and upkeep of the parish buildings and ensuring a welcoming and safe environment for parishioners, staff and visitors. This role often involves both routine maintenance and special tasks related to parish events, services, and activities.

Position Responsibilities:

* Essential Functions

Cleaning and Maintenance

· *Clean and sanitize interior of parish buildings, including sanctuaries, pews, altar areas, restrooms to include commodes, skinks and walls, hallways, offices, and meeting rooms.

· *Sweep, mop, vacuum, and dust all areas of the parish buildings. Operate electric buffer to scrub, wax, buff, and polish floors.

·* Empty trash receptacles and recycling bins and dispose of waste in accordance with safety and environmental protocols.

· Clean windows, doors, and light fixtures as needed.

· Ensure water fountains and drains are kept clean and in working condition.

· Replenish restroom supplies. As needed unclog commodes and sinks.

General Facility Upkeep

· Alert Director of Parish Operations of required basic repairs, such as fixing minor plumbing or electrical issues.

· Advise if heating, cooling, lighting, and other systems are functioning properly.

Safety and Security

· *Monitor buildings’ security, locking doors and windows after hours to ensure the safety of the premises.

· *Ensure that all fire exits, and emergency equipment are functional and accessible.

· *Maintain an organized storage areas for cleaning supplies and equipment, keeping hazardous materials safely stored.

Assist with Special Parish Activities

· *Provide support for special liturgical events, including but not limited to Christmas, Easter, weddings, funerals, by ensuring the building is ready for these services.

Coordination with Parish Staff

· *Work closely with the parish office and other staff to ensure that the church and ground are well-maintained and ready for services, or parish events and activities.

· *Communicate any needs or concerns about maintenance and repairs to Pastor and/or Office Manager.

Inventory and Supplies

· Monitor and request cleaning supplies, toiletries, and other necessary materials for parish operations.

· Ensure that necessary tools and equipment for custodial tasks are in good working condition.

· Adhering to safety training and protocols on a daily basis and taking precautionary measure to ensure the safety and well-being of self, others.

· *Responsible for protecting the confidentiality of any information or material obtained in the service to the parish.

· Every employee is required to take a solution-oriented approach in their interactions and undertakings, as well as being a team member that promotes collaboration and commitment to the Mission and Vision of the organization.

· Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications to include Knowledge and Skills:

  • Education
    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • Associate’s degree preferred
  • Experience
    • At least one year experience of working in an administrative role providing direct support to others.
    • Working knowledge of computer, copy machine, printer/fax/scanner, business phone system, and other office equipment.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
    • Bilingual in English and Spanish
    • Proven intermediate level of proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
    • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to handle sensitive information with integrity and discretion. Confidentiality is essential.
    • Must have good critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
    • Must be detail oriented, organized, self-motivated, work well independently and on a team.

    • Valid driver license
    • Valid vehicle insurance
