About This Position

Description:

The Behavior Specialist/BCBA performs technical and professional work with a high degree of autonomy within this Intermediate Care Facility providing comprehensive habilitation services to persons with a primary diagnosis of Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities. The Behavior Specialist works flexible days and hours across diverse environments within this facility consistent with assigned work tasks. The behavior Specialist performs professional work in conjunction with the consulting Psychologist. The Behavior Specialist is empowered to assure that assigned individuals receive appropriate, individualized psych-social and behavioral services to facilitate active treatment by way of an efficient Interdisciplinary Process. This is a salaried, exempt position.

Contributions:

  • Assists Interdisciplinary Teams in developing, integrating, implementing and documenting the efficacy of Individualized Behavior Plans for each assigned individual.
  • Monitors, reviews, and assists ID Teams in the revision of individual IPPs based on individual psycho-social and behavior needs.
  • Acts as advocate for assigned individuals ensuring that treatment, care and training appropriately address each assigned individual’s psycho-social and behavior needs consistent with standards of service excellence.
  • Coordinates and facilitates all interdisciplinary team activities related to planning, implementing, monitoring, reviewing, revising and documenting each individual’s Behavior Plans ensuring that needs are addressed and the expectations of relevant standards are met.
  • Conducts on-site monitoring of assigned individuals behavior plans and procedures and completes related documentation of findings and observations ensuring consistency, coordination and integration in the implementation of each Individual Behavior Plan.
  • Conducts and coordinates staff development activities by presenting in-service training, providing on-the-job training, conducting orientation training and coordinating, through the staff development office, diverse staff training ensuring that Interdisciplinary Team members exhibit knowledge and skills requisite to the delivery of quality psycho-social and behavior services to individuals.
  • Promotes an atmosphere for active team building and employee participation in planning and decision-making at every opportunity.
  • Models sensitivity, courtesy and cooperation in all interactions with persons served, staff and the public to facilitate positive working and living relationships.
  • Performs related work tasks and special projects with purpose and performance standards provided at the time of assignments
  • Participates in self-development and training activities to remain abreast of current technologies, trends, techniques and professional issues.
  • Monthly/Quarterly monitoring process by the psychologist and psychiatrist to ensure compliance.
  • Participation in Human Rights Committee and processes

Requirements:
  • Must possess a knowledge of current practices in the I/DD field.
  • Must have thorough understanding of education/training principles.
  • Must have effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must have ability to establish and maintain an excellent working relationship with all fellow employees and supervisory staff, promoting a team concept.
  • Must demonstrate leadership and organizational skills.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

  • Master's degree or higher in psychology, counseling, special education, speech language pathology, occupational therapy, behavior analysis, nursing, or other related field.
  • 2+ years of experience working with individuals with intellectual disabilities (IDD)/behavioral health field
  • BCBA and/or Behavior Specialist license (PA)
  • Requires familiarity with Windows operating systems, email communication, word processing and spreadsheet software
  • Must have all required clearances and maintain a valid Driver’s License.
