CNC Machining Technician – Milling & Turning Operations
Location: Newport News, VA
Employment Type: Full-Time | Contract-to-Hire
Work Arrangement: Onsite
Pay Rate: Starts at $20.00 + (depending on experience)
We are seeking a CNC Machining Technician to support both milling and turning operations in a high-output manufacturing setting. This position involves a combination of CNC programming, equipment setup, and hands-on machining to produce precision components.

- Review work orders, blueprints, GD&T, and technical documents to plan machining processes
- Program and edit G-code for 3-axis CNC milling machines
- Set up machines, including tool offsets, work coordinates, and tooling configurations
- Perform machining operations such as drilling, tapping, turning, facing, contouring, and cutting
- Conduct first-piece inspections and verify dimensions using precision measuring tools
- Identify and correct machining issues through program edits or setup adjustments
- Operate manual shop equipment such as mills, lathes, drill presses, and saws
- Perform routine machine maintenance and manage tooling for optimal performance
- Track material usage and assist with basic inventory monitoring
- Maintain a clean and organized work area while meeting production goals
- Minimum of 3 years of CNC machining experience
- Proficiency in G-code programming and editing
- Strong understanding of geometry and trigonometry applied to machining
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings
- Familiarity with quality processes such as First Article Inspection and PPAP
- Basic knowledge of inventory control practices
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks (standing, bending, reaching)
- Strong attention to detail and time management skills
- Background in sheet metal or mixed manufacturing environments
- Exposure to CAM software (e.g., SolidWorks or similar)
- Familiarity with ISO 9001 quality standards
- Experience with process or continuous improvement initiatives
- Hands-on experience with manual mills and lathes
- CNC vertical machining centers (including systems comparable to Fadal VMC series)
- Manual machining equipment
- Precision measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, depth gauges, and dial indicators
