Role Overview

The Head of Engineering is a senior leadership role responsible for setting technical direction, building high‑performing teams, and ensuring engineering execution consistently enables delivery confidence, customer trust, and long‑term sustainability. This individual will lead and evolve our engineering organization supporting mission-critical communications systems. The Head of Engineering is a people-first technical leader with the credibility to guide complex engineering decisions and the leadership maturity to build scalable capability across disciplines.

Key Responsibilities

Lead & Develop the Engineering Organization

  • Lead all engineering teams and disciplines, including Systems, RF and Network functions
  • Build, mentor, and retain high‑performing engineering leaders and teams
  • Establish clear roles, expectations, and career paths

Set Technical Direction & Standards

  • Define long‑term technical direction and reference architectures
  • Establish engineering standards and design review processes
  • Balance innovation with standardization and operational supportability

Ensure Quality, Risk Management & Delivery Confidence

  • Own engineering quality and defensibility across system designs
  • Identify and mitigate technical and architectural risk early
  • Support a pause‑and‑escalate culture when delivery confidence is threatened

Partner Across the Organization

  • Collaborate closely with Project Management, Field Services, Operations, and Sales Engineering
  • Support complex customer engagements requiring senior technical leadership
  • Engage vendors at an architectural and standards level

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical field (advanced degree preferred)
  • 12+ years of experience in complex systems or mission‑critical engineering environments
  • 5+ years leading engineering teams or managers
  • Strong background in system‑level engineering (e.g., RF, networking, mission‑critical communications, or similar regulated environments)
  • Proven ability to balance technical depth with people leadership and organizational accountability

Location & Reporting Structure

This is an in-person role based at one of Eastern Communications' or its affiliates, RACOM and PMC, nationwide service center locations. The selected candidate will work on-site and travel up to 25%. Specific location will be determined based on the qualifications and preferences of the selected candidate.

The Head of Engineering reports directly to the Vice President of Technical Services and works in close partnership with cross-functional teams to align operational priorities with company strategy.
