About This Position

Position Summary:

The Digger Derrick Ground Hand is responsible for supporting the safe and efficient operation of a digger derrick crew. This role involves ground-level tasks such as preparing job sites, handling materials, assisting with pole installation, and maintaining communication with the operator and crew. A Ground Hand plays a key role in ensuring operations meet safety standards and project timelines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with setting up and breaking down job sites
  • Spot the digger derrick during operation to ensure safe digging and lifting
  • Dig holes, set poles, and backfill as directed
  • Handle and position materials such as poles, anchors, and concrete forms
  • Help assemble and place rebar cages and bolt templates
  • Use hand tools, power tools, and small equipment as needed
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the work area
  • Follow all safety protocols, including wearing required PPE
  • Assist in loading/unloading equipment and materials
  • Communicate clearly with the operator and crew members to coordinate tasks
  • Flag traffic or operate temporary traffic control devices when necessary

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • 1+ years of utility construction or related labor experience preferred
  • Familiarity with digger derrick operations and basic rigging is a plus
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in various outdoor conditions
  • Willingness to travel and work long hours as needed
  • Must be able to pass a background check and drug screening
  • Valid driver's license (CDL preferred but not required)
