The SARA, Inc. High Power Electromagnetics Division (HPEM) is looking for a remarkably talented, motivated, and imaginative Technical Writer I to support research and development activities and transition innovative technologies to the DoD, DoE, and their contractors in Colorado Springs, CO. The candidate will have the opportunity to grow and learn with talented engineers, physicists, and technicians on long-standing programs and innovative new programs supporting our growing customer base. Our small group will allow the candidate to experience, contribute to, and collaborate in a multidisciplinary nature from conception all the way through to operation.

Candidates must be strong team participants, have excellent communication skills, be resourceful and creative, and be willing to contribute to a multidisciplinary and fast-paced engineering environment.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Edit, standardize, and/or make changes to material prepared by other contributing authors and technical personnel
  • Produce and design physical media for distribution, including printed and bound workbooks, 3-ring binders, flyers, memos, brochures, and other marketing materials
  • Conduct interviews with production and engineering personnel and review historical reports to become familiar with product technologies and production methods
  • Organize technical content into clear, concise narratives that effectively convey information to a wide variety of potential audiences, including both highly technical and non-technical review entities
  • Review writing assignments and establish information exchange standards that ensure proper order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology
  • Contribute to the writing of technical materials, such as equipment manuals, appendices, or operating and maintenance instructions.
  • Prepare and deliver training information for a wide range of applications
  • Copyedit technical contributions, technical reports, test plans, procedures, and other writing submittals

Key Competencies:

  • Ability to present complex data in clear, concise text
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work independently
  • Ability to edit, and proofread work of colleagues
  • Ability to grasp theoretical and basic principles related to physics, mechanical, and electrical engineering
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, to include advanced features such as style control, templating, embedded cross-referencing, footnoting, bibliographic referencing, and document review/comment actions
  • Excellent editing skills

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Technical Writing, or related field
  • 0 - 2 years of related experience
  • Experienced in research and reporting across multiple disciplines and subjects
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail
  • US Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain DoD Top Secret security clearance
  • May require light physical effort, involving standing, sitting, and carrying or lifting up to 15 pounds
  • Working environment is indoor, moderately quiet, reasonably clean, well-lit, and well-ventilated; moderate physical hazards may exist

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active DoD Top Secret or DoE Q clearance

Pay Range

Salary at SARA is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, the individual’s particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $28 - 34 (hourly USD). The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of SARA’s total compensation package for employees. Positions are on-site, unless indicated otherwise.
