Job Summary: The Emergency Department Technician collaborates with physicians, nurses, and other clinical staff to provide essential patient care and operational support within the emergency department. Responsibilities include assisting with basic clinical procedures, monitoring patient comfort and safety, and ensuring that care areas are prepared and well-maintained. The ED Technician plays a vital role in supporting the care team and enhancing the patient experience during emergency visits.

Position Qualifications:
Education:
- Required (EMT): High school diploma or equivalent; completion of an accredited EMT program
- Required (Paramedics): Graduate of accredited paramedic program
- Preferred (All): Associate or bachelor’s degree in a healthcare-related field
Experience:
- Preferred: 2 years as practicing EMT/Paramedic; experience in outpatient, hospital, or freestanding ER
Computer Skills:
- Required: Basic computer skills
Certifications & Licenses:
- Required (All): Texas Department of State Health Services Paramedic or EMT license, free of disciplinary action
- Required (All): Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Required (Paramedics): Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications
Summary of Duties:
- Collaborate with nurses, physicians, and other clinical staff to support high-quality patient care, consistent with licensure and training.
- Obtain preliminary patient information, record vital signs, observe patient status, and perform basic patient assessments as directed.
- Assist providers with patient care procedures such as wound care, splinting, immobilization, and preparing patients for examinations or treatments, within scope of training and certification.
- Perform phlebotomy and initiate peripheral IV access under direction of licensed staff, after completion of required training and competency validation and within scope of training and certification.
- Assist with arranging and preparing patients for transport to other facilities, including coordinating with EMS crews, ensuring documentation is complete, and supporting patient readiness, within scope of training and certification.
