Position Summary

The Executive Director of Schools is a senior instructional leader responsible for supporting and overseeing a portfolio of Rocky Mountain Prep schools to ensure strong academic outcomes, joyful student culture, and excellent school leadership.

This role partners closely with principals to strengthen instructional leadership, develop high-performing teams, and ensure schools deliver on the promise of an excellent education for every student.

The Executive Director will oversee a portfolio of schools that includes both strong-performing campuses and at least one campus requiring focused improvement. The role will balance sustaining excellence where it exists while supporting targeted school improvement efforts where needed.

For the 2026–27 school year, this role will likely oversee a portfolio of elementary schools. However, as Rocky Mountain Prep continues to evolve, portfolio assignments may shift to meet organizational priorities. The ideal candidate brings the flexibility, strategic mindset, and leadership agility needed to adapt as the network’s needs change.

Key Responsibilities

Portfolio Leadership & Principal Coaching
  • Directly supervise and coach principals across a portfolio of schools to drive strong academic outcomes, healthy student culture, and operational excellence.
  • Support school leaders in setting ambitious goals aligned with network priorities and student needs.
  • Provide consistent leadership coaching, feedback, and accountability to ensure principals grow and perform at high levels.
  • Build strong relationships with school leadership teams to foster trust, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
School Performance & Improvement
  • Monitor school performance across academic, cultural, and operational metrics to ensure all schools are on track to meet network goals.
  • Provide targeted support and intervention for schools requiring improvement, including diagnosing root causes and supporting leaders in implementing effective strategies.
  • Partner with principals and network teams to develop and execute school improvement plans when needed.
  • Ensure schools have clear systems for tracking progress and using data to drive instructional and cultural improvements.
Instructional Excellence
  • Partner with instructional leadership teams to ensure high-quality teaching and learning across the portfolio.
  • Support principals in building strong instructional leadership teams and maintaining rigorous expectations for student learning.
  • Monitor instructional systems and provide feedback that strengthens alignment to network priorities.
Student Culture & Community
  • Support principals in building inclusive, joyful school cultures grounded in belonging, accountability, and high expectations.
  • Ensure schools implement strong systems for student culture, behavior expectations, and restorative practices.
  • Partner with school leaders to engage families and communities as active partners in student success.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner with the Schools Team to ensure alignment across academics, student services, operations, and talent.
  • Collaborate with the Talent Team to support principal development, leadership pipelines, and strong staff retention.
  • Work with Operations and other network teams to ensure schools have the resources and systems needed to operate effectively.
Leadership & Organizational Contribution
  • Serve as a key member of the Schools leadership team, contributing to network-wide strategy and decision-making.
  • Share best practices across schools and help build system-wide capacity for strong school leadership.
  • Contribute to the development of leadership pipelines and succession planning for principals.
Qualifications
  • Proven record of leading schools to strong academic and cultural outcomes as a principal, executive principal, or network school leader.
  • Experience supporting school leaders through improvement or transformation efforts.
  • Strong instructional leadership and deep understanding of effective teaching and learning practices.
  • Demonstrated success in coaching and developing leaders.
  • Strong systems-thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to analyze data and translate insights into action.
  • Exceptional relationship-building and communication skills.
  • Commitment to educational equity and belief in the potential of every child.
  • Ability to thrive in dynamic environments and adapt to evolving organizational needs.
