Description:

The Evergreen School, an independent school serving highly capable students in preschool through 8th grade, is currently accepting applications for a Facilities Technician.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Facilities Technician ensures that the school’s facilities, vehicles, and equipment are maintained at the highest standards of safety, functionality, and cleanliness. This hands-on role supports the day-to-day operations of a Preschool–8th grade independent school, including preventative maintenance, repairs, event setups, and operational support. The ideal candidate is proactive, skilled in a variety of maintenance areas, and dedicated to providing a safe and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors.

Duties and Responsibilities:

This is a dynamic, hands-on role that plays an essential part in keeping the school running smoothly each day. From facilities maintenance to transportation and event support, this position contributes to creating a safe, welcoming, and well-maintained campus for the entire community.

  • Building and Facilities Maintenance
    • Perform general maintenance and repair across campus, including light plumbing (e.g., unclogging fixtures, repairing flushometers).
    • Perform as-needed janitorial support (including cleanup of bodily fluids, broken glass, etc.).
    • Conduct leaf blowing and outdoor maintenance as needed.
    • Repair flushometers, plunge or snake clogged fixtures (light plumbing).
    • Replace lighting (bulbs and tubes)
    • Install and repair fixtures, including faucets, cabinetry, shelving, and wall mounted systems
    • Conduct flooring repairs and support carpentry projects, including custom builds and summer projects.
    • Inspect fire extinguishers and emergency lighting on a monthly basis
    • Maintain appliances such as refrigerators (clean condenser coils and fan, clean condensate and evaporator pan, etc).
  • Vehicle Maintenance and Transportation Support
    • Assist with weekly fuel checks and coordinate fueling based on vehicle usage.
    • Support monthly bumper-to-bumper inspections and routine preventative maintenance.
    • Perform as-needed maintenance and repairs, including replacing lights and light covers
    • Inspect and clean school vehicles and activity buses regularly.
    • Drive school vehicles to support field trips and daily transportation needs
  • Additional Responsibilities
    • Assist with event and meeting setup and breakdown.
    • Support playground and campus equipment maintenance.
    • Move furniture and assist with campus relocations or reconfigurations
    • Operate daily shuttles for students and adults as needed
    • Provide coverage for other technicians during absences, including closing campus
    • Support arrival and dismissal operations, including drive through.
    • Maintain inventory of breakroom supplies, distribute copy paper, and service coffee machines.
    • Support and supervise Technical Theater activities in the wood shop.
    • Other duties as assigned

  • Education and Experience
    • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or vocational training in facilities, construction, or maintenance preferred.
    • Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in building maintenance, repair, or related fields.
    • Experience in schools or educational settings is a plus.
  • Licenses and Requirements
    • Valid driver’s license and ability to be approved to drive shuttles (students and adults) in accordance with the School’s insurance requirements
    • Clean driving record required
  • Skills and Abilities
    • Strong knowledge of general building maintenance, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems.
    • Ability to troubleshoot and repair vehicles and school systems.
    • Ability to safely operate hand and power tools, vehicles, and maintenance equipment.
    • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
    • Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
    • Ability to read technical manuals, blueprints, or instructions.
    • Effective communication and collaboration skills; able to work well with colleagues, staff, students, and external partners.

Working Conditions:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds in connection with job duties such as assisting with delivering packages, classroom equipment, or moving materials.
  • Ability to stand, sit, and move comfortably throughout campus for extended periods.
  • Ability to climb stairs and navigate uneven surfaces between locations within and outside school buildings.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including inclement weather.
  • May require early morning, evening, or weekend work to support school operations or events.
  • Exposure to cleaning chemicals, noise, and equipment requiring adherence to safety procedures.

Position Details:

  • This is a non-exempt (overtime eligible), 1.0 FTE full-time, benefits-eligible position. This is an in person, year round position.
  • The salary range for this position is $64,000 to $74,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
  • Typical working hours are Monday-Friday from 7am- 4pm (with a one hour lunch); however, flexibility may be required at times. Occasional adjustments to the schedule may be necessary to support school events, staff meetings, emergency situations, or other operational needs.
  • Any offer of employment is contingent upon successful completion of required background checks, including verification of driving eligibility in accordance with the school’s insurance requirements.
