Structural Steel Fabrication Supervisor – 2nd Shift
Location: Richmond, VA
Shift: 2nd Shift
Job Type: Direct Hire
Payrate Starting at $32.00/hour+ depending on experience
Position Overview
A growing steel fabrication operation is seeking an experienced fabrication leader to oversee second-shift production activities within a structural steel manufacturing environment. This position is responsible for supporting shop operations, supervising fabrication personnel, and helping ensure production schedules, quality standards, and safety expectations are consistently achieved.
This opportunity is ideal for someone with strong hands-on fabrication knowledge who can lead teams effectively while supporting production efficiency and quality performance.
- Collaborate with shop leadership and department personnel to support production schedules and delivery timelines
- Supervise fitters, welders, and fabrication personnel during daily operations
- Assign workloads and adjust manpower distribution to maximize efficiency and output
- Monitor workflow progress and make adjustments based on changing priorities or production demands
- Provide hands-on support to fabrication personnel regarding layout, welding, fabrication techniques, and drawing interpretation
- Assist team members in resolving fabrication-related issues and production challenges
- Promote safe work practices and reinforce adherence to company safety and quality procedures
- Foster open communication by providing constructive feedback and supporting employee development
- Partner with Quality Control personnel to ensure fabrication activities meet required AISC quality standards
- Reinforce compliance with shop safety policies, procedures, and operational expectations
- Help maintain a productive and organized work environment focused on safety and workmanship
- Coordinate with maintenance personnel to help minimize equipment downtime and support production continuity
- Monitor fabrication equipment performance and communicate operational concerns proactively
- Assist shop leadership with employee training, onboarding, evaluations, and workforce development activities
- Support timekeeping reviews, disciplinary documentation, and employee-related discussions as needed
- Participate in interviewing prospective fabrication personnel when required
- Perform additional responsibilities as assigned to support shop operations
- Strong knowledge of structural steel fabrication, welding processes, layout methods, and material handling practices
- Experience working with CNC fabrication equipment and production machinery
- Understanding of production efficiency, safety standards, quality requirements, and cost-control practices
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented manufacturing environment
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Willingness to work overtime and Saturdays when production demands require it
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Previous leadership or supervisory experience within a fabrication or manufacturing environment
- Technical certifications or an associate degree in a related field
- Familiarity with AISC fabrication quality standards and structural steel production workflows
