About This Position
The Drop Bury Technician is responsible for installing and burying fiber optic or coaxial drop cables from the main distribution line to residential or commercial customer locations. This role ensures safe, accurate, and high-quality underground cable placement while maintaining customer satisfaction and proper site restoration.
The Drop Bury Technician works independently or as part of a crew to complete assigned work orders in a timely and professional manner.
Key ResponsibilitiesInstall and bury drop cable (fiber or coax) from pedestal or handhole to customer premises.
Use hand tools, shovels, trenchers, vibratory plows, or mini-excavators to bury cable to required depth.
Locate utilities prior to digging and verify 811 markings.
Perform hand digging around existing utilities when required.
Ensure proper cable placement, slack storage, and conduit installation as needed.
Restore lawns, landscaping, sidewalks, and driveways to pre-construction condition.
Communicate professionally with homeowners and customers regarding work being performed.
Maintain daily work logs and production reports.
Conduct vehicle and equipment inspections.
Follow OSHA regulations and company safety policies at all times.
1+ year of experience in telecom, underground, or utility construction preferred.
Experience with drop bury operations highly preferred.
Knowledge of underground utility locating and 811 processes.
Ability to read basic prints and work orders.
Valid driver’s license required.
CDL preferred but not required.
FTTH (Fiber to the Home) projects.
Operating trenchers, vibratory plows, or small equipment.
Working in residential neighborhoods.
Customer-facing experience.
Strong attention to detail.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Customer-service oriented mindset.
Physically capable of digging and working outdoors in all weather conditions.
Strong time management and reliability.
Field-based role.
Outdoor work in various weather conditions.
Physically demanding (lifting, digging, bending, kneeling).
