Infection Control Nurse (RN) – part-time
Location: Bellingham, Washington
Schedule: Part-Time | Onsite | 20 hours a week | On-call every 3rd weekend
Highland Health & Rehabilitation is a 5-star CMS-rated skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility with 44-bed skilled, and we are dedicated to providing exceptional care. We are seeking a compassionate and skilled part-time Infection Control Nurse (RN) to join our dynamic team in skilled nursing!
The Infection Control Nurse (RN) is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing the facility’s Infection Prevention and Control Program in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations, including CDC and CMS guidelines. This role ensures a safe environment for residents, staff, and visitors through surveillance, education, policy development, and outbreak management. This role will also support staff development, clinical education, and employee health functions as assigned.
What You’ll Do
Infection Prevention & Surveillance
- Lead the facility’s Infection Prevention and Control Program
- Conduct infection surveillance and track/trend healthcare-associated infections (HAIs)
- Monitor and ensure compliance with CDC, CMS, and state guidelines (including F880)
- Lead outbreak investigations and implement containment strategies
- Collaborate on antibiotic stewardship initiatives
Regulatory & Quality
- Maintain survey readiness and infection control documentation
- Participate in QAPI meetings and quality improvement initiatives
- Conduct routine audits (hand hygiene, PPE, isolation precautions)
- Partner with leadership during state surveys
Education & Leadership
- Provide ongoing infection prevention education to staff
- Serve as a clinical resource for emerging infectious diseases
- Support emergency preparedness planning and response
What You Bring:
- Current Washington RN license and degree in nursing from an accredited school.
- Valid CPR certification.
- At least one (1) year of supervisory experience in a hospital, nursing care facility, or similar healthcare setting.
- Experience in long-term care preferred (minimum of six months recommended).
- Strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.
- Knowledge of CDC and CMS infection control standards
