About This Position

Description:

The Regional Operations Manager - South plays a key leadership role in overseeing all trucking operations across the South Region, including two terminals and one satellite location. This position is responsible for the safety, daily execution, and overall operational performance of approximately 30 drivers. The role ensures freight operations are conducted safely, efficiently, and profitably while maximizing the use of personnel and equipment and meeting customer expectations. This position also supports regional revenue growth and new business development efforts.

Essential Duties: All duties to be performed according to established standards and in compliance with all company policies and procedures, while maintaining regular, prompt attendance and availability to work outside standard business hours as needed.

  • Lead and manage day to day operations across two terminals and one satellite location, including dispatch, driver performance, and administrative functions.
  • Ensure safe, compliant, and efficient transportation practices in partnership with the Safety and Maintenance departments.
  • Oversee approximately 30 drivers and terminal staff, providing clear direction, accountability, and performance management.
  • Maintain alignment with approved operational budgets and support regional profitability goals.
  • Monitor and improve key operational metrics including revenue per truck, seated truck percentage, on time service, and cost control.
  • Actively manage customer satisfaction by resolving service issues and ensuring timely, professional freight execution.
  • Support revenue growth initiatives by partnering with Sales on capacity planning, service execution, and regional opportunities.
  • Conduct regular driver meetings and safety reviews to reinforce expectations and improve retention.
  • Serve as the primary communication link between the South Region and corporate leadership, providing consistent reporting and operational updates.
  • Coordinate with Maintenance to minimize equipment downtime and improve fleet reliability.
  • Lead accident reviews and corrective action discussions in alignment with company safety standards.
  • Identify operational inefficiencies, recommend improvements, and implement corrective action plans.
  • Maintain a visible leadership presence within the region, including field visits and direct engagement with drivers and customers

Direct Reports: This role is responsible for leading, coaching, conducting performance reviews, and ensuring accountability for the following direct reports:

  • Professional Drivers assigned to your Terminals
  • Lead Driver / Terminal Manager
  • South Region Fleet Manager

Other Duties:

  • Perform other duties within the location or other areas as assigned.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Observe and enforce all company policies, rules, and safety practices.

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience in the trucking industry; supervisory experience preferred.
  • Prior supervisory or leadership experience required
  • Experience overseeing drivers, dispatch, or terminal operations strongly preferred
  • Flatbed experience preferred
  • Experience working with operational metrics and performance reporting preferred

Language Ability

  • Effective communicator (verbal and written) with ability to interact at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients,
  • and other employees of the organization.

Math Ability

Proficient in basic business math and understanding of accounting practices (P&L familiarity preferred).

Ability to interpret operational reports and performance metrics

Working knowledge of profit and loss statements preferred

Ability to analyze revenue per truck, cost per mile, and operational trends

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral

Computer Skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and general computer literacy

Certificates, Licenses and Registrations

  • Valid Class A CDL
  • Clean driving record
  • Ability to obtain required safety or operational certifications
  • Underground bulk fuel tank certification or willingness to obtain

Total Compensation

  • Base Salary: $75,000 - $95,000
  • Incentive: Quarterly performance-based bonus
  • Total Target Compensation Range: $75,000 - $110,000 (depending on experience)
