DevOps Engineer Description – Developer Experience Team
Beast Code is searching for a seasoned DevOps Engineer for our Developer Experience (DevX) Team to help knockdown technical barriers and reduce the friction of engineering in our ecosystem.
To join our team, the DevOps Engineer must be a master of Kubernetes and Helm with well-earned confidence on the command line and have a solid understanding of software engineering principles. You’ll be working with a mixed team of engineers focused on building tools and pathways for internal and external engineers working with our software. The DevOps Engineer should be a confident communicator and comfortable collaborator who can work closely with Cybersecurity, IT Operations, and Software Engineers in a team atmosphere to create new solutions — and maintain existing ones — for internal and external engineers alike.
For this team, the DevOps Engineer should not only be a confident communicator but an excellent listener capable of working with project teams to both learn their needs and share knowledge on solutions. The DevOps Engineer must also possess a strong practical knowledge of configuration management using cloud-native, open-source tools, and software engineering techniques/methodologies. Experience with Continuous Integration / Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) pipelines (GitLab) is another skill our DevOps Engineer should possess.
A typical day may include the following:
- Building tools and “golden pathways” for Beast Core developers
- Novel and innovative problem solving
- Building and maintaining the infrastructure that supports the Internal Development Platform
- Working with developers to understand current pain points and drawbacks of developing in Beast Core
- Embedding with project teams to learn their workflows and friction points to ensure that DevEx solutions are providing value
- Knowledge-sharing with your fellow engineers: pair programming, creating tutorials, maintaining documentation, supporting the tools you’ve helped build
- Staying up to date on the latest developments in technology
- Identify architectural improvements and make large-scale changes
- Working with developers to understand current pain points and drawbacks of developing in Beast Core
- Attending daily standup meetings and other agile ceremonies

- Kubernetes
- Docker
- Terraform/OpenTofu
- GitOps tools (ArgoCD, FluxCD)
- Knowledge of source control systems (Git, GitLab)
- Competence in Bash scripting
- Experience securing networks, servers, and applications
- Understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, SSL/TLS, network routing, and subnets
- Functional understanding of Software Engineering principles
- Basic reading comprehension of either Typescript
Bonus points if you have:
- Experience in Cybersecurity, IT System Administration, Web Development, and/or DevOps
- Experience with Internal Developer Platforms (IDPs), with strong preference for Backstage-based implementations
- A firm grasp on Cloud infrastructure technologies (AWS, Azure)
- Familiarity with the following DevSecOps Technologies/Concepts:
- Configuration as Code (CaC)
- Security as Code (SaC)

DevOps Engineer I: $76,200.00-$101,200.00
DevOps Engineer II: $97,700.00-$127,500.00
DevOps Engineer III: $122,100.00-$152,200.00
DevOps Engineer IV $139,800.00-$172,700.00
DevOps Engineer V: $159,200.00-$200,000.00
DevOps Engineer I
Works on projects and matters of limited complexity in a support role where work is actively managed. Typically requires 0-2 years of industry experience.
DevOps Engineer II
Occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. Gains exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function. Typically requires 2-4 years of related experience.
DevOps Engineer III
Work is generally independent and collaborative in nature. Expected to take the initiative to improve development projects and infrastructure. Contributes to complex aspects of a project. Typically requires 4-7 years of related experience.
DevOps Engineer IV
A specialist on complex technical and business matters. Work is highly independent. May assume a team lead role for the work group. Typically requires 7 years minimum of industry experience.
DevOps Engineer V
Works autonomously. Goals are generally communicated in “solution” or project goal terms. May provide a leadership role for the work group through knowledge in the area of specialization. Works on advanced, complex technical projects or business issues requiring state of the art technical or industry knowledge. Typically requires 10+ years of related experience.
Other Requirements:
- Due to the nature of our work, it is mandatory that you are a U.S. Citizen and able to comply with Government regulations
- Successfully complete background check and maintain a valid USA driver’s license
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance
