Job Description

The American Liver Foundation (ALF) is the nation’s leading non-profit organization dedicated to liver health and disease prevention. ALF promotes education, advocacy, support services, and research to prevent, treat, and cure liver disease.

PRIMARY FUNCTION/PURPOSE:

  • Frontline fundraising position responsible for developing relationships with major donors to support ALF's impact.
  • Research new donors, solicit new and existing donors, and promote year-round stewardship.
  • This position reports to the National Vice President, Development, and is part of a dynamic development team.
  • ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as a contributing member of ALF’s National Leadership Team.
  • Effectively represent ALF, its mission, and values to all stakeholders, including the general public.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with individuals in a major gift assigned portfolio to secure resources to support ALF’s programmatic initiatives.
  • Coordinate major gift strategies in the assigned portfolio, including significantly growing the individual prospect pool of donors with capacity of $1,000+, effectively using moves management tools.
  • Focus on donor prospects utilizing the Wealth Engine tool.
  • Conduct the full range of activities required to write, prepare, submit, and manage proposals to major donors.
  • Develop and send regular, personalized stewardship communications to send to the portfolio of donors.
  • Engage donors in meetings, with an expectation to hold 4+ donor meetings per month in person and/or via phone/video conference.
  • Complete pre-call planner before meetings to plan strategy; capture notes and next steps in database.
  • Serve as a knowledgeable representative of ALF’s programs, services, and research awards.
  • Collaborate with leadership and staff to set goals and determine organizational needs.
  • Maintain excellent relationships with the donors and expand relationships where possible.
  • Actively participate in learning opportunities for professional growth and self-improvement.
  • Prepare monthly progress reports.
  • Attend ALF meetings, programs, and events when requested.
  • All other duties as required.
  • SUPERVISION:

    No direct reports at this time.

    POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

    Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in education, training, and experience.

    Experience/Skills/Knowledge:

  • A minimum of 2-3 years of frontline fundraising experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience to meet the minimum requirements for the position.
  • Proven track record of sales success in a non-profit environment.
  • Experience working with major gifts over $1,000.
  • Must be an action-oriented individual and comfortable taking risks.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated capabilities delivering compelling presentations and proposals a must.
  • Exceptional organizational skills.
  • Exhibit keen attention to detail, including follow-through and follow-up.
  • Demonstrate an ability to work with diverse personalities.
  • Be able to set and keep to internal deadlines.
  • Have drive and passion for community and donor development.
  • Be a creative thinker and contributor.
  • Strong self-confidence but also a team player.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills required.
  • PREFERRED SKILLS:

    Knowledge and experience with donor databases

    Work Environment:

    Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, including some nights and weekends. Expected travel 5-10% when it is safe to do so. Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds.
