Quality Control Technician

Morgan Foods, Inc. / American Soy Products – Saline, MI

Full Time Position - 40 hours per week Monday-Friday with Saturday and Sunday overtime every other weekend (Sat. 1.5x, Sun. 2x pay)

3rd Shift: 11:30 PM - 7:30 AM ($17.75 / hour with shift premium)

Role Summary:

Morgan Foods, Inc., a premier manufacturer of soups, beans, gravy, and broths, is seeking a Quality Control Technician to support laboratory and food safety operations at American Soy Products (ASP) in Saline, MI. This is a full-time, on-site role reporting to the Quality Supervisor.

The Quality Control Technician is responsible for performing quality control activities, including laboratory testing, line sampling, package integrity verification, documentation review, and compliance monitoring. This role plays a critical part in ensuring product quality, food safety, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence within a regulated food manufacturing environment.

American Soy Products (ASP) – located in Saline, MI, is part of Morgan Foods, Inc.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Perform routine finished product and in-process quality testing, including pH, sodium, total solids, viscosity, temperature monitoring, and package integrity verification
  • Pull line samples, retain samples, and complete required laboratory documentation accurately and in a timely manner
  • Support product release activities through testing and verification processes
  • Maintain compliance with GMP, HACCP, SQF, FDA, sanitation, and food safety standards
  • Ensure laboratory cleanliness, organization, and proper sanitation throughout the shift
  • Verify calibration and monitoring of laboratory and plant quality equipment
  • Assist with microbiological plating, environmental monitoring, and water testing as trained
  • Participate in GMP and quality audits and complete assigned audit activities on schedule
  • Communicate production quality concerns, specification deviations, and package integrity issues to leadership and operations teams
  • Maintain laboratory inventory, including reagents, testing materials, and supplies
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and cross-training efforts within the Quality Department
  • Follow all company policies, safety procedures, SOPs, and work instructions

Physical Requirements:

Ability to frequently stand, walk, bend, reach, and perform repetitive motions throughout the shift. Must be able to occasionally lift supplies, reagents, and testing materials up to 50 lbs. Ability to work in both laboratory and manufacturing environments.

Environmental Requirements:

Primarily works within a manufacturing and laboratory environment with occasional exposure to variable temperatures, humidity, food products, cleaning chemicals, and wet conditions.

Communication Requirements:

  • Ability to read, understand, and follow SOPs, specifications, testing procedures, and safety standards
  • Maintain accurate and legible documentation and laboratory records
  • Communicate effectively with Quality, Production, and Operations personnel regarding product quality and compliance matters

Scheduling & Availability:

Ability to work assigned shifts, including extended hours, weekends, and holidays as needed to support production and quality demands.

Education/Training/Skills/Experience/Personal Attributes:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific field preferred, or equivalent experience
  • Prior laboratory, food manufacturing, or quality assurance experience preferred
  • General familiarity with GMPs, HACCP, SQF, and food safety programs preferred
  • Strong math, computer, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to maintain detailed and accurate records
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment
