POSITION SUMMARY:

Prepares short order grill items in the cafeteria according to procedures and health code requirements, restocking area as needed to ensure efficient service to customers. Interacts appropriately with customers consistently demonstrating exceptional customer service skills. Maintains a clean and sanitary work environment. Participates in continuous quality improvement activities and educational experiences in support of departmental philosophy and objectives, as well as Health System Incentives.

EDUCATION/TRAINING:

At least 2 years food preparation experience in a high volume food service environment.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:

Must have current State of Illinois Food Sanitation certification or obtain within 6 months of hire. If no valid license is in place prior to hire, Serve Safe Food Handler certification required to be completed within 30 days of hire.

EXPERIENCE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

Good oral communication and customer service skills. Ability to effectively and respectfully interact with staff and the public within the organization. Ability to effectively deal with disgruntled customers and resolve complaints. Successful completion of annual job specific competencies and skill verification tools required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Consistently follows sanitation codes while preparing short order grill items utilizing correct portion sizes. Demonstrates ability to adapt pace of work during peak serving times to serve customers quickly and efficiently while using lower volume times to restock and clean. Labels and dates food items.
  • Utilizes standardized recipes to correctly prepare menu items at the grill. Accurately documents amounts of foods prepared and leftovers on food production records. Documents food preparation temperatures and station holding temperatures to ensure maintenance of health code standards.
  • Demonstrates understanding of operational and maintenance procedures for flat top grill, char broiler, fryer and grill hood including process for relighting pilots and manual hood initiator.
  • Uses sound judgment to resolve customer issues independently, offering substitutions and replacements as needed. If unable to resolve issues to the customer’s satisfaction, refers issue to department leadership for follow up.
  • Completes grill area assigned daily/weekly/monthly cleaning checklists following all designated procedures. Empties garbage as assigned and disposes of broken glass appropriately. Stocks station as needed for next shift. Maintains a clean work station throughout shift.
  • Consistently demonstrates an ability to look beyond the normal scope of duties to provide exceptional service to café patrons and a commitment to improve customer satisfaction scores in annual customer close up survey.
  • Performs all aspects of job in an environment that optimizes patient, customer and environmental safety and in accordance with applicable laws, regulations and compliance efforts. Maintains confidentiality of position acquired information. Completes other duties as requested
