About This Position
Imaging Technician Assistant
Under the direction of a Radiologic Technologist and/or Registered Nurse, assists in providing patient care for patients during the imaging process. Performs a variety of clerical and processing duties. Reports to Radiology Director/Manager.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Greets and interviews patients, obtains and records basic history and other pertinent information in a professional manner.
- Enters and records necessary patient information into the Radiology computer system, generates requisitions for exams if required. Begins and ends exams at the request of the technologist in the RIS system.
- Prepares and sends documents to TeleRadiology services.
- Answer telephones
- Prepares and sets up the exam room with appropriate equipment and supplies.
- Transfers and positions patients correctly for their imaging exam.
- Transports patients to/from designated areas on third shift.
- Keeps inventory levels adequate throughout the shift.
- Assists patients to obtain required information on screening sheet.
- Uses safety devices such as patient straps, patient sliders.
- Works cooperatively as part of a self-directed team, promoting effective working relationships to facilitate the department's ability to meet its goals and objectives.
- Performs additional duties as required, including training of new staff.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to operate the hospital's computer systems.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team under the direction of a licensed technologist.
- Ability to lift and pull patients, push stretchers, walking and remaining in a standing position for sustained periods of time.
- Knowledge of Radiation Safety.
- High school diploma required.
- Must become certified in Basic Cardiac Life Support within the introductory period of the position and maintain clinical competency during employment at Waterbury Hospital.
- Must have basic computer skills and ability to access internet and other programs applicable to Waterbury Hospital imaging procedures.
