About This Position

POSITION OVERVIEW

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Accounting Manager to join our team. The Accounting Manager is charged with providing leadership and technical expertise to the Accounting team to ensure we are generating complete and accurate financial information. This Accounting Manager has direct responsibility for managing the Credit and Collections Department and Sales Tax Compliance along with the functions therein. As a leader of people, your leadership skills will be instrumental in fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment. This role requires the ability to lead by example, provide clear direction, and support the professional development of your team.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Accounting Department / Company-Wide

  • Support Month-End Close for the Company’s multiple branch locations across five states through analytical review of the monthly operating results and preparation of monthly financial statements.
  • Monitor and analyze monthly operating variances against expectations.
  • Support the implementation and monitoring of internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure all Company accounts are fully reconciled monthly. Escalate reconciling items and discrepancies for investigation to achieve timely resolution and provide direct feedback to the Corporate Controller.
  • Further develop best practices and ensure the Company’s Accounting procedures conform to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand and document end-to-end business processes.
  • Create detailed process flow documents outlining key financial processes.
  • Support the implementation and monitoring of internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Both prepare and review various information requests to support audits and other reviews to the external accounting firm, banks, and regulatory agencies as requested.
  • Manage accuracy and productivity of staff within areas of responsibility.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements to create efficiencies and reduce expense.
  • Special projects as requested, including but not limited to software enhancements and/or upgrades, analysis of operations activities as they relate to accounting, and identification of opportunities for improvement.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Credit and Collections

  • Lead and motivate a team of four experienced Collectors, providing strategic guidance that aligns with the Company’s organizational goals.
  • Utilize various aging reports to monitor collection progress of team’s respective portfolios and ensure they are current and accurate.
  • Provide guidance on proper account management to ensure timely collection of open receivables to ensure established goals are met or exceeded.
  • Manage external collections when necessary and maintain ongoing relationship with third party agencies.
  • Resolve billing, payment and dispute issues as they arise; recommend advanced collection steps up to and including account closure for troubled accounts timely to minimize risk of loss.
  • Lead monthly reviews with leadership to discuss delinquent accounts and needed actions.
  • Evaluate potential customers’ creditworthiness. Provide recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Support the daily activities of the Credit and Collections team such as responding to customer inquiries, providing invoice and statement copies as requested, setting up new customer accounts and other miscellaneous tasks.
  • Provide strategic guidance to the team in alignment with organizational goals.
  • Set clear objectives and performance expectations, ensuring that team members understand their roles and responsibilities.
  • Encourage a sense of ownership and accountability among team members.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive team culture that values collaboration and innovation.

Sales Tax Compliance

  • Serve as the Company’s subject matter expert with regard to sales tax compliance
  • Ensure accurate and timely filings in multiple jurisdictions / states
  • Advise company leaders and other stakeholders of upcoming rate and policy changes
  • Support company systems and integrations to ensure rates are current and systems are functioning properly

KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS

The knowledge requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • BA/BS in Accounting and/or Finance. Master’s degree in Accounting with other undergraduate degree would also be considered.
  • Minimum 4 years proven experience in Accounting management roles with a focus on Accounts Payable, month-end close, account reconciliations and process documentation.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to cultivate productive internal relationships, both within the Accounting Department and throughout the organization.
  • Self-driven to achieve/exceed established goals.
  • Reputation for integrity.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Advanced Excel skills. Proficient with other Microsoft Office applications (Word, Outlook, etc.).
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment, capable of managing changing priorities and requests.
  • Experience with internal control over financial reporting preferred.
  • CPA preferred.

OTHER RELEVANT INFORMATION ABOUT THIS ROLE

  • We are located at 75th Avenue, just south of the I-10
  • This is an in person / on site role. We are not offering remote work at this time
  • This is a full-time, salaried position. Pay will be DOE.
