About This Position

The Director of Nursing Services for the Skilled Nursing Unit. directs the operations of the unit, which includes ensuring adequate staffing, responsible for the quality of care, coordinates the QAPI Program, develops and implements policies, procedures and Standards of Care for the Skilled Nursing Unit, and ensures the completion of resident care plans. Coordinator of the SNU Unit’s QAPI and Infection Control committees and also attends and contributes to all committee meetings pertaining to the SNU unit. Ensures staff compliance with medication administration and assists with staff in-services. Ensures that the Payroll Based Journal’s information is correct and submitted in the appropriate time frames. Ensures Oversight of Quality Measures and Continuous Improvement: Direct and monitor the facility’s Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) program to ensure compliance with CMS quality measures, including those related to pressure injury prevention, rehospitalization rates, pain management, vaccinations, and resident satisfaction. Utilize data-driven analysis to identify trends, implement evidence-based interventions, and sustain measurable improvements in clinical outcomes across all care areas. Ensures Fall Prevention Program Leadership: Track, analyze, and trend fall incidents across the unit to identify risk patterns and contributing factors. Lead interdisciplinary fall prevention initiatives—such as post-fall huddles, individualized care plan revisions are completed, staff re-education, and implementation of environmental safety measures—to reduce fall rates and improve resident safety. Leverage root-cause analysis and performance data to guide targeted interventions and monitor effectiveness over time as needed. Ensures Infection Prevention and Antimicrobial Stewardship Oversight: Conduct ongoing surveillance of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs), monitor antibiotic utilization, and ensure adherence to infection control policies and CDC guidelines. Collaborate with the Infection Preventionist to identify infection trends, manage outbreak response, and promote responsible antibiotic use to reduce antimicrobial resistance. Oversee monitoring of new starts on antipsychotic and antidepressant medications, ensuring use is clinically justified, compliant with regulatory standards, and supported by appropriate non-pharmacologic interventions and documentation. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served; also demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age specific needs, and to provide the care needed. Demonstrates knowledge and skills to appropriately communicate and interact with the patients, families, and visitors of all age groups while being sensitive to their cultural and religious beliefs. Assist with the duties of the Administrator when needed.

Performance Expectations:

  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills to perform MDS Assessments, and ensures the accuracy of the process prior to submission of these assessments.
  • Demonstrates the ability to research and collect information regarding any new regulations form CMS/ Skilled Nursing Unit.
  • Demonstrates aptitude in navigating the electronic medical record.
  • Demonstrates the ability to conduct quality control audits including, but not limited to accucheck audits, medication audits, medication room checks and etc.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge of Skilled Nursing Unit Policy and Procedures.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge of abuse/neglect of vulnerable persons; can educate staff.
  • Consistently follows the skilled nursing policies, patient care services and FGH policy, procedures, and standards of care in performing nursing duties.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge to hold monthly staff meetings to educate and problem-solve issues within the unit and embraces and practices the We CARE philosophy in all interactions.
  • Communicates effectively with employees, patients, family and visitors in an appropriate and timely manner. Adheres to and promotes the established values of the organization, i.e. customer service, safety, infection control and compliance standards.
  • Maintain annual compentices as Director of Skilled Nursing.
  • Demonstrates the aptitude to participate and run the QAPI Program, the Infection Control Program, IDT meetings, and Care Plan completion and updates and compiling the data required.
  • Demonstrates the ability to conduct quality control audits including, but not limited to accucheck audits, medication audits, medication room checks and etc.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge of Skilled Nursing Unit Policy and Procedures.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge of abuse/neglect of vulnerable persons; can educate staff.

Qualifications:

Education/Skills

Graduate of a recognized non-online RN program required.

Work Experience:

One year medical/surgical nursing care required. LTC experience preferred.

Certification/Licensure-DUE UPON HIRE

  • Licensed RN able to practice within the State of MS

Additional Certification/Licensure - Obtained based on required timeframe below

  • Basic Life Support
