POSITION OVERVIEW: The Peer Support Coordinator provides program oversite of staff who are responsible for working with consumers focused on mental health recovery. The coordinator is responsible for the hiring and supervision of peer support staff including handling employee and consumer complaints/concerns, assigning work schedules, reviewing treatment documentation and providing regular supervision for staff. The Coordinator collaborates with other internal and external providers for service coordination and participates in the agency’s multidisciplinary team meetings staffing high risk consumers.
ESSENTIAL POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides assistance and support to employees toward maximizing their performance and job expectations including productivity and progress note completion.
- Handles personnel matters effectively and consistently with existing policies, including: interviewing, hiring, counseling, terminating, and completing annual evaluations for employees. Provides appropriate documentation.
- Provides appropriate level of supervision to peer support employees, including peer support, peer mentors and peer warmline staff, assures program staff is supported and trained in accordance with KDADS peer support requirements and agency policies.
- Tracks and monitor’s required KDADS training and documentation for staff to become Certified Peer Specialists and Certified Peer Mentors.
- Ensure all peer staff stay compliant with mandated required trainings relevant to their specific job role.
- Approves times sheets, time off requests, mileage reports, and expenses reports in accordance with MHA policy. Monitors program expenditures and reviews program budget monthly with Director.
- Provides problem-solving and crisis support to ensure the safety of staff and consumers, and continuity of care is provided.
- Coordinates with community providers, treatment team members, and consumers to discuss concerns/progress, including coordinating additional services if needed. Collaborates to ensure smooth transition to more appropriate services when needed.
- Completes and files accurate and timely reports as directed by and/or in conjunction with the Director.
- Meets with Multidisciplinary Team on a regular basis and participates with other staff to assure successful delivery of services and agency-wide collaboration.
OTHER POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Maintains acceptable overall attendance record, to include department staff meetings, agency meetings, and trainings as required. Ensures appropriate notification to supervisor for absences and ensures that work is covered. Flexible in work schedule when needed.

- Meets goals and objectives as mutually agreed upon during last performance review (if applicable).
POSITION REQUIREMENTS: The Peer Support Coordinator is expected to have a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, and experience working with serious mental illness. Preferred areas of experience include: supervision of staff, program management and a commitment to consumer advocacy and quality care. Must demonstrate effective communication, computer and documentation skills. Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule to include some evening and weekend hours and availability for emergency calls are essential. A valid Kansas driver’s license and access to personal vehicle required.
