Position Summary

At the direction of the Security Sergeant/Officer in Charge, the Security Officer assists in maintaining a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors by monitoring facilities, responding to incidents in a timely manner and ensuring safety policies are followed.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities Includes the Following:

  1. Understands and adheres to the WPH Performance Standards, Policies and Behaviors.
  2. Demonstrates/articulates an understanding of the responsibilities of the position, utilizing security policies and procedure via PolicyTech.
  3. Verbalizes and applies knowledge of current department and Hospital Policies and Procedures.
  4. Attends staff meetings or equivalent to update knowledge related to current department and hospital issues.
  5. Attends in-service, Net Learning as required/requested to update knowledge.
  6. Completes annual department and hospital competency requirements.
  7. Ability to observe and report unusual activity.
  8. Ability to investigate and report incidents.
  9. Ability to verbalize tour events and unusual activities to the supervisor and others.
  10. Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Education & Experience Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent (GED) and minimum two years of security experience required.
  • Must have and maintain NYS Security License.
  • A valid Driver’s License is required effective 1/1/2026; Employees hired prior to this date will be grandfathered in.
  • Prior security experience and some college credits preferred.
  • BLS certification through the American Heart Association must be completed within 90 days of hire.
  • De-escalation and restraint training are required to be completed within the probationary period.

Physical/Mental Demands/Requirements & Work Environment

  • May be exposed to chemicals necessary to perform required tasks. Any hazardous chemicals the employee may be exposed to are listed in the hospital’s SDS (Safety Data Sheet) data base and may be accessed through the hospital’s Intranet site (Employee Tools/SDS Access). A copy of the SDS data base can also be found at the hospital switchboard, saved on a disc.
  • Walking, sitting and standing for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 75lbs,
  • Lifting and/or assisting with lifting weighted items/bodies may be required.
  • Must be able to adapt in high stress and emergent situations, acting swiftly when an emergency or crisis occurs.
  • Ability to move quickly throughout the campus and from building to building.

Annual salary: $44,990.01- $67,474.29
