About This Position

Position Description: The Mission of the Funeral Home Manager is to increase funeral home net revenue every yearcombination of increasing call volumes and ARPC of the funeral home.

The Funeral Home Manager will assist the Managing Director with leading funeral home and crematory operations and driving growth in case volume, revenue and profitability by ensuring that the business has the best people in the market.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Support and foster a sense of ownership in the home and pride in the team, manage costs in a disciplined manner and encourage profitable case volume growth.
  • Assist with developing and execution of strategies to achieve short and long-term goals.
  • Assist with identifying and retaining the best people in the market to profitably improve the performance of the home by increasing call volume (number of families served) and revenue growth over time.
  • Develop a strong, trusting and reliable team.
  • Assist with screening candidates (internal and external) and hiring or promoting to ensure a skilled and effective team; foster and environment that increases team member engagement and minimizes turnover.
  • Discipline team members as necessary. Collaborates with Managing Director and Human Resources throughout discipline, development, and termination process.
  • Lead the day-to-day activities ensuring on-time services that exceed client family expectations. Remove barriers, encourage ideas, and identify improvements. Resolve problems, provide resolution guidance to supervisors and empower accountability throughout the team. Ensure that the homes operating practices comply with applicable federal and state regulations.
  • Support the goals and priorities for the home. Effectively present and communicate strategies, values, and goals to the team.
  • Ability to perform all functions of the funeral director as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES
  • Ability to manage distressing and stressful situations with sensitivity and care.
  • Professional communication skills.
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Thorough understanding of methods for comforting people during grief.
  • Thorough understanding of laws related to funerals and funeral arrangements.
  • Ability to promptly and accurately execute required legal paperwork.
  • Ability to perform mortuary services.
  • Detail-oriented and extremely organized.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Associates or Bachelors degree in mortuary science.
  • At least two (2) years experience managing people and effectively managing expense control required.
  • Licensed as a funeral director (or able to become licensed in the state where the funeral home operates).
  • Experience with implementing strategic and business plans.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Proficient or willing to become proficient in Crakn and NetSuite.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Environment: Work may be performed both indoors and outdoors regardless of weather conditions; may have exposure to various chemicals, fluids and equipment.
Attire: Business attire is required. Personal safety equipment or appropriate attire may be required for mortuary services or crematory environment.
Physical Demands: Sitting continuously for multiple hours or standing continuously for multiple hours. Manual dexterity to operate standardized office equipment, telephone, calculator, copier, and computer. Ability to lift up to 50lbs to assist with moving bodies
Extenuating Schedule: Typically required to work several evenings or weekends each month
Travel: Limited local travel
