Posting Salary Range: $95,000 - $105,000

About the Role: The AI Strategist is a key member of the AI Lab within the Michigan Virtual Learning Research Institute at Michigan Virtual, with a primary focus on working directly with schools to deliver impactful presentations, facilitate workshops, and support deeper implementation and integration of AI in K-12 education. This role emphasizes hands-on consulting with educators and districts to guide adoption, build capacity, and ensure AI tools and practices are effectively embedded into teaching, learning, and school operations. Secondary responsibilities include research, asset development, and contributions to AI product innovation.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Partner with schools and districts to design, implement, and evaluate AI integration strategies, ensuring alignment with curriculum, pedagogy, and student-centered learning outcomes.
  • Provide consultative support for long-term AI adoption and change management within schools, including coaching, data collection, and integration planning.
  • Lead engaging, tailored presentations, workshops, and professional development experiences for schools, districts, and education leaders to build AI literacy and capacity.
  • Guide and contribute to AI pilot programs with partner schools, collecting and analyzing data to assess impact and scalability.
  • Serve as a primary subject matter expert to support K-12 communities of practice, statewide AI workgroups, and district-level AI integration efforts.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Contribute to the design of AI-related programs, curricular assets, and resources for educators and students.
  • Assist in AI product development projects, ensuring ethical and effective design for classroom use.
  • Support research and tool piloting efforts, documenting outcomes and best practices.
  • Develop guidelines and best practices for safe and ethical AI use in education.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations for internal stakeholders and at educational conferences.
  • Mentor Michigan Virtual staff members on AI integration.
REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • Master’s degree in Education, Educational Leadership, Instructional Design, or related field.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in K-12 education, with at least 5 years in a leadership, coaching, or consulting role.
  • Demonstrated success in facilitating workshops, professional learning, and school-based integration efforts.
  • Experience in instructional technology and AI applications in education.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS & ABILITIES:
  • Deep understanding of AI technologies and their potential applications in education, with the ability to translate them into practical strategies for educators.
  • Expertise in facilitation, coaching, and professional development for educators and leaders.
  • Strong background in curriculum development and instructional design with technology integration.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the capacity to guide schools through implementation challenges.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a dynamic environment.
  • Proficiency with AI tools, Office 365, Google Workspace, and educational technology platforms.
PREFERRED SKILLS:
  • Research experience in education or related fields.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and national education policies on technology and innovation.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work from the Lansing, MI-based office 1-3 days a week, with weekly travel to schools, districts, and conferences across Michigan, and occasional out-of-state travel.
Extended periods in a seated or standing position, often using computers and digital devices.
