Primary Duty:
Supervise, directly and through production supervisors, all aspects of the Plywood Manufacturing process. This includes safety, administration at the plant site, planning, scheduling, production, shipping, quality, product development, environmental and technical compliance, and personnel management
Essential Functions
- Direct production and manufacturing in accordance with established process and product specifications, quality standards, delivery schedules, and standard costs so as to continually improve the efficiency, economy, and safety of the operations.
- Provide a safe work environment for employees that meet or exceeds regulatory compliance levels.
- Work with suppliers and recommend to the Plant Manager the types of equipment supplies needed to maintain an efficient and up-to-date manufacturing facility.
- Coordinate engineering on new projects as well as existing equipment upgrades. Prepare back-up data.
- Prepare monthly safety meeting discussion points and training materials.
- Prepare budget information and review for areas of responsibility for compliance with the budget.
- Provide guidance with supervisors to maintain satisfactory employee and labor relations, safety and teamwork within a Total Quality framework.
- Coordinate the various phases of operation to ensure efficient workflow and assignment. Accomplish this by working closely with maintenance, technical and quality resources, raw material procurement, and safety and environmental.
- Demonstrates a commitment to the process of continuous improvement, identifies and responds actively to the needs of all customers and is open and responsive to change.
Minimum Education/Experience/Physical Functions:
College degree, or equivalent work experience in related job function. Requires a self-motivated, results-oriented individual with good analytical and communication skills, excellent planning and organizational skills and a demonstrated commitment to the process of continuous improvement. A solid understanding of manufacturing practices and equipment is required. Must have the ability to work well with people at all levels and facilitate change and growth as needed in a team environment. Must have management level knowledge of accounting, purchasing, engineering and employee relations.
Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor of Science, or technical degree in related field (Engineering, Forestry, Wood Science). Prefer a minimum of seven (7) years of experience in manufacturing/wood products/management, including demonstrated responsibility for all areas identified.
Decision-Making/Supervisory
Coordinates and supervises the daily activities of business or technical support or production team. Sets priorities for the team to ensure task completion; coordinates work activities with other supervisors. Decisions are guided by policies, procedures and business plan.
Scope
Ensures the alignment of team priorities with broader organizational initiatives and objectives.
