About This Position

Staff Accountant
Primarily responsible for applying principles of accounting to process information and analyze daily financial transactions by applying accounting knowledge and through the use of spreadsheets, database software, and / or Company specific applications to perform the needed duties.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Comprehend chart of accounts and code daily and monthly entries to proper accounts.
  • Prepare, review, and post journal entries to general ledger..
  • Perform detailed review, analysis, and reconciliation of general ledger accounts.
  • Audit contracts, orders, and vouchers, and prepare reports to substantiate individual transactions prior to settlement.
  • Determine proper handling of financial transactions.
  • Perform general accounts receivable and accounts payable functions.
  • Analyze business operations, trends, costs, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations to provide advice.
  • Monitor compliance of financial transactions with Company procedures.
  • Review, investigate, and correct errors and inconsistencies in financial entries, documents, and reports.
  • Assist in the month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Conduct studies and submit recommendations for improving the Company’s accounting operation.
  • Install, modify, document, and coordinate implementation of new software platform and Accounting control procedures.
  • Display advanced knowledge of workflow through the Department and have a thorough understanding of other areas within the Company.
  • Provide information to other employees as well as the Company’s outside accounting firm.
  • Act as a coach and mentor to the Accounting staff.
  • Serve as a lead for special projects as assigned.
  • Any and all other duties assigned by management
Qualifications for the position:
  • Associates or Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
  • 3+ years related experience and / or training or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of professional accounting principles, theories, concepts, and terms.
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams and multiple entities.
  • Expert level experience with computer software programs, including Google, MS Word and Excel, Epicor, and document imaging applications.
  • Familiar with a variety of retail concepts, practices, and procedures. Rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Familiar with GAAP accounting concepts
  • Excellent communication skills.
Additional Notes
Works directly with clerical personnel, store personnel, and management personnel including Purchasing, HR / Payroll, and IT to accomplish job duties.
