About This Position
A Barback at Pullman Market holds an hourly position and plays a key supporting role in the overall success of the restaurant’s bar operations. This individual is responsible for ensuring that bartenders are fully supported during service by maintaining stock levels, keeping the bar area clean and organized, and assisting with prep and inventory. A barback contributes directly to the efficiency, hospitality, and smooth flow of the restaurant by working behind the scenes to make sure every bartender has what they need to deliver exceptional service.
Operational Responsibilities:
- Support: Work closely with bartenders to maintain high service and hospitality standards by anticipating needs, restocking supplies quickly, and ensuring all bar areas are ready for service.
- Bar Organization: Maintain cleanliness and organization throughout all bar stations, storage areas, and back-of-house prep areas. Complete opening and closing checklists as assigned.
- Bar Program: Ability to work within their restaurant and execute the program as outlined by the Bar Director and Management Team.
- Stock: Ensure all stations are stocked with glassware, garnishes, ice, spirits, beer, wine, and mixers. Replenish items during service to maintain uninterrupted operations.
- Prep: Assist with bar prep, while keeping in mind “first in, first out” guidelines.
- Cleanliness: Work at a fast pace while maintaining a clean environment. When closing, be as detailed as possible to ensure that the opening team is set up for success.
- Reviews: This position will receive bi-annual performance reviews from the Assistant General Manager and the Beverage Director.
Personal Requirements:
- Be an ambassador for the company and maintain professionalism in and outside of work.
- Previous experience in customer service, hospitality, or retail is preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining cleanliness and organization.
- Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Flexibility to work in shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- A genuine passion for locally sourced products and culinary offerings is advantageous.
- TABC and Texas Food Handler Certificate required.
Working Conditions:
- A typical work week for this position is 40-45 hours. Hours vary based on needs of the market and the department.
- Position requires prolonged standing, bending, stooping, twisting, lifting objects up to 45 pounds, and repetitive hand and wrist movements.
- Exposure to hot, cold, and potentially hazardous equipment is possible.
- Familiarity with office equipment such as phones, computers, fax machines, and copiers may be required.
