About This Position
The Senior Instrumentation Engineer is responsible for managing client projects and for assuring high quality and timely completion of engineering designs and reports. The Senior Engineer should be comfortable interfacing with the clients, visiting clients’ facilities and performing physical work such as walking, stooping, kneeling and climbing stairs/ladders. Key responsibilities include technical calculations and preparation of I&C deliverables.
Instrumentation Engineering (Primary)
- Lead detailed design of instrumentation systems for EPC projects
- P&IDs in regard to instrument and control philosophy
- Maintain instrument index and I/O lists for DCS, PLC, and SIS systems
- Develop instrument datasheets (flow, level, pressure, temperature, analyzers) and complete instrument sizing and calibration drawings
- Specify and apply measurement technologies based on process conditions and installation requirements, i.e. DP flow, Coriolis, ultrasonic, radar, GWR, etc.
- Valve specifications and sizing (control valves, regulators, on/off valves)
- Perform loop design, control wiring and loop drawing development
- Develop wiring infrastructure and interconnects for junction boxes, local control panels, marshalling panels, and control system
- Define installation details, i.e. Hook-ups, tubing layouts, impulse lines, thermowells
- Instrument location plans and cable and conduit routing plans
- Read motor schematics and develop control system interface with starters and VFDs
- Review of vendor drawing submittals
- Technical evaluation of bids
- Assistance in field work
- Support of construction and startup/commissioning activities
Control Systems Engineering (Secondary)
- Support control system architecture design
- Develop:
- Control narratives and functional descriptions
- Cause & Effect matrices
- Interface with control system vendors and system integrators
- Review logic diagrams, interlocks, and shutdown systems
- Participate in FAT/SAT and commissioning activities
Project Execution
- Execute work across:
- FEED studies, FEL 1/2/3, Execute
- Detailed engineering
- Minimal Construction support
- Coordinate with: Process, mechanical, electrical, and piping disciplines
- Review P&IDs and ensure instrumentation alignment
- Provide technical input for procurement packages and vendor evaluations
- Provide MTOs to estimating department.
- Manage deliverables, budgets, schedules, and technical quality
Leadership & Technical Authority
- Discipline lead on assigned projects
- Mentor junior and mid-level engineers
- Act as technical checker for construction package and calculations
- Drive standardization and best practices across projects
- Interface directly with clients and stakeholders
- Provide technical troubleshooting and problem-solving support
- 8+ Years of Engineering Experience
- Demonstrated experience in: Oil & Gas, Petrochemical / Refining, Chemical or heavy industrial facilities
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products
- Project lead experience developing engineering schedules, budgets and forecasts
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work effectively in teams and to present a positive image to clients
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD and 3-D CAD a plus
- Engineering design tools and calculations
- Knowledge of Industry Standards (ISA, PSM, etc.)
- BS Degree in Chemical or Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
- Advanced degree, and/or P.E. certification a plus
- SIS certification a plus
- Active participation in professional organizations a plus
