About the Role:
The Shredder Operator is responsible for sorting plastic materials and feeding them into a conveyor system that leads to the shredding machinery. Tasks may vary depending on the specific shredder in use and operational needs.
Responsibilities:
- Sort plastic materials and remove contaminants or foreign objects.
- Feed plastics manually or with equipment onto a conveyor that leads to the shredder or grinder.
- Monitor the shredder operation and report any abnormal noise, jams, or malfunctions.
- Clean up surrounding work area and shredding equipment at the end of each shift.
- Assist with changeovers or cleaning of shredders when switching material types.
- Communicate with other team members to ensure smooth and safe operations.
- Follow all safety protocols and wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Minimum Job Qualifications:
- Willingness and ability to learn plastic sorting and shredder operation.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Familiarity with PPE including gloves, safety glasses, steel toe boots, and ear protection.
- Attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions in English or Spanish.
Preferred Job Qualifications:
- No prior experience required—training will be provided.
- Forklift certification is a plus but not mandatory.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to stand for long periods and perform repetitive tasks.
- Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs.
- Frequent exposure to dust, plastic particles, and loud noise.
- Work environment is industrial and may be hot, cold, or dusty depending on the season and material processed.
- Use of gloves, respirators, or dust masks may be required depending on material.
