About This Position
Position Highlights:
The HIM Deficiency Specialist is responsible for auditing the medical record documentation to meet Joint Commission and hospital policy standards.
It compiles monthly statistics of audit results for reporting to hospital committees. In addition, the position creates reports of incomplete and delinquent documentation and distribute them to medical staff, escalating to appropriate hospital administration when necessary.
The HIM Deficiency Specialist assists with the clean-up of aged Outpatient, Inpatient, and Recurring accounts for completeness, timeliness, and accuracy. This includes performing re-analysis, research, and re-assignment of deficiencies, researching and reporting demographic errors within the documentation.
Responsibilities:
- Audits patient medical record for content of Joint Commission and Moffitt policy elements.
- Assist with clean-up of aged Outpatient, Inpatient, and Recurring accounts
- Distribute Deficiency Reports
- Research Refused Documents

Credentials and Experience:
- High School Diploma/GED
- Two (2) years of experience reviewing patient medical records for deficiency completion
Minimum Skills/Specialized Training Required
- Effective verbal and written communication
- Good customer service and interpersonal skills are required.
- Proficient in the use of computers including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and Outlook,
- Ability to organize multiple priorities and make independent decisions.
