OPERATOR SWITCHBOARD at Sinai Chicago – Chicago, Illinois

GENERAL SUMMARY/BASIC PURPOSE OF JOB:

• Operates cord switchboard to relay incoming, outgoing, and interoffice calls by performing the following duties.

Essential Functions and duties:

• Accurate and timely receipt and transfer of all calls and to announce all necessary codes.

• Operates console to receive, route and/or transfer a high volume of calls.

• Operate paging equipment to receive, route and transmit messages to appropriate personnel.

• Receives, logs, notifies departments and distributes faxes internally.

• Provides faxing both internal and external. Receives, logs, notifies departments and distributes faxes internally.

• Transmits via telephone all mailgrams and telegrams as requested by departments. Maintains a copy in the logbook with the confirmation number.

• Receive and maintain daily and monthly on-call schedules.

• Responds immediately and accurately to all alarms and follows appropriate procedures.

• Provides proper response to all Codes and logs appropriately in the Code logbook.

• Maintains established procedures concerning quality assurance for Code Blue procedures. • Demonstrates knowledge of safety codes, alarm systems and the proper procedures relating to them.

• Knowledge on use of the internal phone and paging system.

• Performs all other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM EDUCATION:
• High School diploma or equivalent.
MINIMUM WORK EXPERIENCE:
• Must be able to read, write and understand English.
• Bilingual English/Spanish.
• Previous related experience highly desired.
• Excellent verbal communication skills as well as customer service skills essential.
