About This Position

Position Title: Assistant Professor of Computer Science (Tenure track)
Department: Computer Science
Reports To: Dean of College of Business, Information Studies, and Technology (CBIST)
Location: On-campus (River Forest, IL)
The Associate Professor position is open for candidates with relevant credentials and experience.
Position Summary:
Dominican University invites applicants for an Assistant Professor of Computer Science for the 2026-2027 academic year, beginning in August 2026. We seek and engaged educator-scholar who is enthusiastic about teaching and mentoring undergraduate students and contributing to a collaborative academic community.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to high-quality instruction in Computer Science, support student success across varied academic backgrounds, and maintain an active .program of intellectual contributions appropriate to the discipline and institution. The position carries a standard teaching load of 21 credit hours per academic year (typically seven courses)
The faculty member is expected to support the University’s mission through teaching, scholarship, and service.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • The candidate should demonstrate the ability or potential to teach software development and other computer science topics at both the undergraduate and graduate level.
  • The candidate would be expected to establish, or have an already established research agenda, demonstrating the ability or potential to produce quality peer-reviewed journal articles and other intellectual contributions.
  • The ability to advise students and serve on university and college committees.
  • Remain current in disciplinary knowledge and pedagogical practices.
Required Qualifications:
  • PhD in Computer Science or a closely-related field from an accredited institution. ABD candidates will be considered if degree conferral by May 15, 2027.
  • Demonstrated potential for scholarly research and ongoing intellectual contributions appropriate to a teaching-focused institution
  • Commitment to creating a supportive learning environment that engages students with varied academic preparation and backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior teaching experience in Computer Science at the undergraduate level.
  • Industry or applied experience in software development or related computing fields.
  • Experience creating or leading computer science programs.
  • Experience designing or implementing experiential or project-based learning in Computer Science.
  • Experience advising and mentoring students.
  • Experience teaching at institutions serving broad student population, including minority-serving institutions.
CLASSIFICATION NOTE
Rank at hire will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. Candidates with a sustained record of teaching effectiveness, scholarly contributions, and academic service may be considered for appointment at the Associate Professor level.
Physical Demands:
  • Ability to spend long durations of the workday sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
Salary and FLSA Status
  • SALARY: $90,500 – $102,000 annually
    FLSA Status: Exempt, full-time
