As a senior engineer on the Risk Platform team, you will build scalable APIs, distributed systems, and machine learning-driven rules engines to mitigate credit and fraud risk. You will collaborate closely with product, design, and engineering teams to deliver innovative solutions that improve customer experience while ensuring security and compliance. The role combines high technical ownership with a focus on risk management, providing a chance to influence platform architecture and mentor peers. Accountabilities- Design, implement, and maintain high-scale APIs and distributed systems to support risk mitigation across the platform.
- Build and enhance the core rules engine, enabling dynamic decision-making for credit, fraud, and operational risk.
- Develop machine learning and data-driven solutions to detect, prevent, and respond to business risks.
- Collaborate with product, design, and engineering teams to launch new features across web and mobile platforms.
- Ensure high system availability, scalability, and reliability using AWS, containerization, and observability best practices.
- Mentor junior engineers, promote best practices, and contribute to elevating team technical standards.
- Participate in designing experimentation and A/B testing frameworks to optimize risk policies and user experience.
Requirements
The ideal candidate has a strong background in risk-focused software engineering, with experience delivering complex systems in production:
- 6+ years of professional software development experience, including 5+ years in Java.
- Hands-on experience with Java frameworks and tools, including Spring (core/web/boot), Gradle, JUnit, and JVM optimization.
- Proven experience in risk engineering, rules engine architecture, and production risk/credit/fraud systems.
- Skilled in designing scalable architectures, REST APIs, message queues, and service-oriented systems.
- Experience with AWS services (EKS, Aurora RDS, Elasticache, DynamoDB) and containerization tools.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines (preferably GitHub Actions), infrastructure as code (CDK/Terraform), and observability/monitoring tools like DataDog.
- Strong collaboration, communication, and mentorship abilities to support cross-functional teams.
- Preferred: experience with big data platforms such as Snowflake, and exposure to experimentation frameworks and machine learning in risk contexts.
