Analytical Chemist (Cannabis Testing Lab) at Encore Labs LLC – Pasadena, California

Job Summary

The Laboratory Analyst I/ Technician II will lead Laboratory Technician I and Laboratory Assistants, with sample preparation for cannabis testing attributes for all types of cannabis samples for the heavy metals testing using ICPMS. Crossing training on other test methods such as HPLC, GCMS, and LCMS. This role includes sample preparation via digestion, sample loading, analysis, and review of results for heavy metals analysis on ICPMS as well as assisting with calibrating and maintaining the instrument. Additionally, this role may include loading and running other instruments like LCMS, GC, and ICP as well as helping with any lab duties that may include but not limited to: cleaning lab glassware, inventory management, waste management, assisting with lab samples status checks and general administrative lab duties.

General Duties
Lab Tech II
• Sample receiving and preparation for cannabis goods for all testing categories
• Training Laboratory Assistants and Laboratory Technicians and ensuring proper performance of SOPs.
• Properly record data into LIMS system
• Maintain a clean work environment; assist in cleaning lab glassware and tools
• Validating lab equipment daily and calibrate as needed for balances, pipettes, and bottle top dispensers.
• Preparing Instrumentation reagents; making standards, calibrations, mobile phase.
• Ensure and work under frameworks of Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and ISO 17025
• Flexibility and preparedness to adjust to rapidly developing priorities and carry multiple responsibilities in a start-up environment.
• Waste management and upkeeping as well as sample retention and disposal.
• Inventory management and ordering consumables.

Analyst I
• Sample preparation for cannabis goods for ICPMS, but not limited to.
• Perform analysis via ICPMS of cannabis samples to quantitate heavy metal concentrations in samples.
• Review QC data, prepare technical reports, and upload final results into LIMS
• Perform instrument maintenance and calibrations
• Troubleshoot instrument issues
• Assisting with method development and method validation as needed.
• Ensure and work under frameworks of Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and ISO 17025

Qualifications
• Must be at least 21 years of age
• A bachelor’s degree in biological, chemical, agricultural, environmental, or related sciences from an accredited college or university, plus at least 2 years of full-time practical experience; or
• A bachelor’s degree in any field from an accredited college or university, plus at least 4 years of full-time practical experience
• Cannabis sample processing and testing or food safety/environmental lab background are strongly preferred
• Background working environment in ISO 17025 laboratory a plus
