About This Position

JOB SUMMARY:

The Non-Certified Pharmacy Technician provides technical and clerical pharmacy support services in an ambulatory care clinic setting under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist. This position assists with medication preparation, dispensing processes, inventory management, documentation, and patient support activities. All duties are performed in compliance with applicable federal and state regulations, AAAHC accreditation standards, and organizational policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

· Assists pharmacists in preparing, packaging, labeling, and dispensing medications, including unit doses, pre-packs, and reconstituted products

· Compounds medications as directed by a pharmacist and within permitted scope, including sterile preparations in accordance with USP 797 and USP 800, where applicable

· Prepares medications for automated dispensing cabinets and ensures accurate delivery and restocking

· Supports curbside medication delivery and prescription mail-out programs in accordance with clinic policy

· Contacts patients to notify them when medications are ready for pick-up

· Ensures the use of two patient identifiers (e.g., name and date of birth) during all patient-related activities

· Offers patient satisfaction surveys as part of the clinic’s quality improvement efforts

· Directs all clinical questions or medication counseling requests to a licensed pharmacist

· Receives, stores, rotates, and replenishes medications and pharmacy supplies

· Monitors inventory levels, enters data into pharmacy systems, and generates supply orders

· Ensures proper handling, storage, and documentation of medications, including temperature monitoring

· Performs routine checks for expired medications and removes outdated products from inventory

· Coordinates reverse distribution processes for credit or reimbursement when appropriate

· Enters medication, cost, and inventory data into pharmacy and billing systems, including perpetual inventory records

· Assists with pharmacy point-of-sale (POS) billing activities and supports pharmacy program billing as directed

· Requests and processes prior authorizations under pharmacist guidance

· Maintains accurate pharmacy records, reports, and logs in compliance with organizational and regulatory requirements

· Maintains working knowledge of pharmacy policies and procedures, including formulary management, refills, eligibility, and mail-out services

· Participates in compliance with the Vaccines for Children (VFC) Program, as applicable

· Supports quality improvement initiatives, audits, and clinic readiness activities

· Complies with all federal, state, and local regulations, including HIPAA confidentiality requirements

· Maintains the pharmacy and storage areas in a clean, safe, and orderly condition

· Performs additional duties and special projects as assigned

· Serves on organizational committees, teams, or workgroups as requested

REQUIREMENTS:

• Participates in Core Connections training and applies GPTLHB Core Connections concepts and practices in their work.

• Familiarity and/or experience working with American Indian populations and respect for and knowledge of traditional, cultural, and spiritual practices of diverse American Indian communities, as well as an ability to work with other culturally and ethnically diverse populations.

• Proficiency with computer programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other Internet technologies.

• Valid driver’s license must be kept current, and certificates, credentials or licenses must be kept current and consistent with regulations required by applicable federal, state and/or grant regulations as applies to position.

• Work in a cooperative and professional manner with OHC and GPTLHB staff.

• Treat Great Plains tribes and collaborators with dignity and respect.

• Utilize effective verbal and written communication skills.

• Advance personal educational development by attending training sessions and seminars as appropriate.

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

· High school diploma or GED required

· Registration as a Pharmacy Technician with South Dakota State Board of Pharmacy upon hire.

· Pharmacy technician certification is not required for this position, but the selected candidate may obtain certification with Pharmacy Technician Certification Board in order to be considered for a Certified Pharmacy Technician role.
