About This Position
Position Summary
The Project Engineer is expected to take full technical ownership of assigned projects with a primary focus on RF-shielded cabinets, containers, and integrated enclosures. This role bridges project engineering and mechanical design by leading technical development from bid process through production release. The Project Engineer ensures designs are manufacturable, compliant, and aligned with project requirements, while coordinating closely with Project Management, Production, Quality, and the EMEV group.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead mechanical design execution for assigned projects (cabinets, containers, shielded assemblies, etc.).
- Review contract requirements, specifications, and/or drawings at kickoff.
- Translate customer requirements into executable mechanical designs.
- Own technical risk identification and mitigation. Facilitate Design Failure Mode and Effects Analyses (DFMEA), ensuring risks are identified, documented, and mitigated prior to production release.
- Develop 3D models, assemblies, and fabrication drawings. Drive BIM coordination to ensure seamless integration of mechanical systems within multidisciplinary project models
- Design structural frames, panelized systems, door integrations, waveguide interfaces, filter housings, and mounting systems.
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards (e.g., MIL-STD-188-125).
- Perform analysis as required (structural integrity, mounting loads, hardware selection, tolerance stack-ups)
- Coordinate and partner with Project Managers, Production, Quality and other functions to manage the engineering schedule and support overall project milestones.
- Support design reviews (Model Review, Pre-Release Review, Production Release Review, as built/ lessons learned review)
- Generate complete production-ready drawing packages. Ensure models and drawings are accurate, checked, and released per company procedures.
- Support ECO development and implementation when required.
- Contribute to design standardization efforts. Identify opportunities to reduce cost, schedule, and improve manufacturability and product platforms.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field from an ABET accredited program
- 5+ years of mechanical design experience in fabricated assemblies.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance (if required by project).
- Strong proficiency in CAD (Inventor or similar).
- Experience with welded structures, sheet metal, and structural assemblies
- Ability to read and interpret technical specifications and customer drawings.
- Strong problem-solving and willingness to take ownership and responsibility
- Occasional travel to customer sites or production facilities may be required
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with RF-shielded enclosures, SCIFs, HEMP, or EMI mitigation products.
- Experience supporting MIL-STD or government-related projects.
- Experience supporting production environments.
Exposure to containerized systems or modular enclosures.
