About This Position
22nd Century Group, Inc. is a U.S. based contract manufacturer of combustible tobacco products and the exclusive producer of VLN® reduced-nicotine cigarettes. Founded in 1998 and headquartered in Mocksville, North Carolina, the Company is redefining the combustible cigarette through proprietary low-nicotine technology.
Position Summary:
The Operations Laboratory Technician assists in the day-to-day operation of the Laboratory in a safe and efficient manner and is responsible for completed work in the laboratory. The Laboratory Technician will follow any direction provided by the Quality Manger and VP of Science and Technology as needed.
This is an onsite role in Mocksville, NC.
Essential Functions:
- Develop and implement the laboratory’s Standard Operation Procedures (SOPs) in relation to the generation of data.
- Perform quantitative analysis such as serial dilutions, solution/sample preparation, calibration curves, and control charts.
- Ensure analytical instruments’ calibration and maintenance are under current good laboratory practice (cGLP) regulations.
- Assist in trouble shooting instrument and method issues.
- Perform qualitative analysis on raw materials when an issue arises to determine the finished product’s integrity.
- Aid in Leaf cutting and blending of tobacco for prototype development.
- Cooperatively work as a team cross departmentally to push products from R&D to commercialization.
- Aid in developing SOPs for new product formulations, quality checks, and research management.
- Aid in the reconfiguration, design, and/or buildout of any analytical lab
- Assist in method development with future specific target compounds if the opportunity arises.
- Assist in performing in-line quality checks on products through-out the manufacturing process
- Perform quality checks on incoming raw materials making sure they abide by the necessary quality standards.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a scientific field with relative laboratory experience.
- Basic knowledge of high-speed manufacturing production environments.
- Experienced with operating laboratory testing equipment.
- High level proficiency in cGMP’s and an ISO environment.
- Understanding of cGMP’s, CFR 21, and ISO standards.
- Strong written and verbal skills.
- Mathematical skills.
- Must be able to stand for an 8-hour shift.
