Role: Associate, Data Products & Quality

Reports to: Manager, Data Products & Quality

Department: Clinical Research

Team: Observational Research

Level: Associate

Location: JC Office

The Opportunity

As a key member of Character’s Data Products & Quality team, you will help create and maintain high-quality, standardized datasets that power our observational studies, clinical trials, and research collaborations. You will have a hands-on role in managing integrated data ingestion workflows (including site-based, AI-assisted, and manual data collection), reviewing and validating complex data, and applying rigorous data quality standards. You will embrace both modern, AI-enabled processes and traditional methods like on-site data retrieval with sites. Your contributions ensure Character’s data assets are clean, robust, and ready for clinical and scientific discovery.

This hybrid role is based in Jersey City, NJ, reporting to the Manager, Data Products & Quality.

Responsibilities

  • Data Acquisition and Ingestion
    • Execute and support data ingestion workflows for diverse research datasets, using a combination of manual entry, AI-powered tools, and site-based data collection as needed
    • Assess clinical and imaging data to flag patients who may be eligible for participation in observational and interventional studies, under the direction of the team lead
    • Proactively pursue missing or delayed data through traditional methods (calls, emails, vendor/site follow-up), documenting efforts and outcomes
    • Support physical on-site data processes such as patient eligibility reviews for interventional trials and data retrieval, representing Character Bio with our critical site partners
  • Data Quality
    • Perform systematic data quality checks for completeness, accuracy, and consistency across all sources, promptly escalating issues to team lead as needed
    • Act as point-of-contact for complex or escalated data issues and lead coordinated efforts to recover, verify, and resolve data gaps or quality problems
    • Review and validate AI/LLM-generated data outputs, serving as the “human-in-the-loop” to correct, document, or escalate issues
    • Analyze and report data quality trends, recommend root cause solutions, and propose changes for operational excellence
  • Collaboration and Process Improvement
    • Support SOP development and refinement in partnership with the Data Products & Quality Manager
    • Collaborate with team members and cross functional partners to improve data capture processes and support continuous improvement
    • Represent the team in cross-functional meetings as needed
    • Contribute to a culture of quality, reliability, teamwork, and solution-finding

About You

You are detail-oriented, collaborative, and motivated by the challenge of making research data truly reliable and impactful. Experienced in real-time problem-solving, you proactively implement innovative solutions to complex challenges. Whether you’re just starting your career or bringing experience in data operations, you enjoy both tech-driven and hands-on work - moving easily between spreadsheets, AI tools, and direct outreach to resolve data issues. You thrive in a dynamic environment, communicate proactively, and bring curiosity, problem-solving, and a continuous improvement mindset to everything you do.

Qualifications/ Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in a scientific, technical, data, or related field required; advanced coursework or credentialing a plus
  • 2+ years of experience in data management, clinical data operations, research coordination, or hands-on quality role
  • Skilled in both AI/technology-enabled and traditional/manual data capture and validation processes
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills; able to lead initiatives and mentor others
  • Willing to travel to high-profile sites (up to 25%) at the direction of the team lead, based on operational needs
  • Demonstrated initiative in following up on data issues with internal and external partners
  • Comfortable multitasking in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment
