About This Position

SUMMARY: The sound technician is responsible for the set up, operation, and repair of all audio, video, network and satellite systems, and electrical equipment required to support live events and exhibitions at MCCA’s convention center facilities. This role ensures clients’ technical and communication requirements are met through expert cable management, A/V production support, and coordination with internal departments.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: The Authority’s Manager of Sound and AV may designate various other activities.   • Repair, install and operate all types of electronic equipment in accordance with the requirements of clients
  • Set up, route, and manage cabling including audio, video, network, satellite, microwave, internet, telephone, and fiber wiring throughout convention center facilities
  • Maintain satellites and set-up related communication links as requested
  • Set-up monitor and maintain computer networks
  • Set up and place microphones and monitor sounds to ensure optimal quality of sound reproduction
  • Communicate with clients and internal departments regarding technical services and resolve issues
  • Remove temporary wiring in exhibit halls and corridors when necessary
  • Assist members of physical plant as needed in completion of their required duties
  • Perform all duties in accordance with safety procedures and venue protocols

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This job has no supervisory responsibilities

MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 5 years of related experience in a hotel/convention center setting
  • Experience with IP audio systems
  • Proficient in the set-up and successful operation of audio, video and satellite equipment
  • Working knowledge of computer systems and network connectivity
  • A valid Massachusetts driver’s license and willingness to travel between sites

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of rigging operations is desirable
  • Familiarity with Audio Architect and Dante networking or similar enterprise-level AV platforms

WORK SCHEDULE:

  • This position follows a Tuesday through Saturday 10 a.m.–6 p.m. schedule after training, however, the hours and days may fluctuate based upon the needs of a particular event or project, which would require the ability to work a flexible schedule including late nights, early mornings, long days, weekends and holidays at the BCEC or Hynes facilities (subject to any collective bargaining restrictions).
  • All positions within the MCCA are designated as on-site roles. As such, this position requires in-person attendance five days per week. Remote or hybrid work arrangements are not part of MCCA's operational model.

DRESS CODE: Uniforms are provided. In order to project dignity and decorum expected by the public, appropriate dress and good grooming are expected of all employees.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: This position requires the ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and crouch for extended periods while setting up and operating equipment throughout convention center facilities. Employees must be able to lift, carry, and move equipment and cabling, and may occasionally be required to work at heights or in confined spaces during installation. The role involves frequent use of hands for handling tools, cables, and technical equipment, as well as the ability to distinguish audio and visual signals. Work may take place in varying environmental conditions including loud noise levels, low lighting, and both indoor and outdoor settings depending on event requirements.
