Job Description
Objective
The Electrical Design Engineer is responsible for projects involving the design of automation equipment utilizing EPLAN.
Responsibilities
- Design of hardware for custom build automated machinery and systems.
- Size and dimension of controls, measurements and drive technologies.
- Create electric hardware diagrams and BOM’s in PDM system.
- Participate and support creation of safety concepts.
- Calculate proper incoming and branch circuit protection.
- Calculate proper wire sizing, knowledge of EPLAN.
- Create panel layouts and clarify interfaces.
- Create electrical wiring schematics, flow diagrams, panel layouts, Bill of Materials, organize release packages, and update schematics.
- Clarification of technical details with customers and suppliers.
- Participate in internal and customer design reviews, installations, and service calls when needed.
- Follow all policy and procedures to maintain ISO9000 Certification requirements.
- If required, temporary takeover the role as a Main Responsible for Hardware Engineering within the Project and on behalf of the Project Manager.
Electrical and Safety Code Understanding
- Use and apply industry codes and government regulations
- See below in qualifications for information on training
- Use and apply NFPA/NEC electrical guidelines to produce machines in accordance to code regulations
- Use and apply UL508A.
- Use and apply ISO 13849-01 and 12100 to determine risk assessments
Budget and Schedule
- Work within the confines of the project schedule and budget.
- Work with the Electrical Engineering and Assembly Manager to help Set/Create the schedules and budgets.
- Learn and understand cost books, and the quoting process for potential jobs.
Engineering
- Read design drawings and technical specifications
- Contribute to the engineering team with suggestions
- Help research and specify appropriate purchased and preferred components.
- Work with the team members and exhibit objectivity and openness to others’ views.
- Track all drawings required for the automation equipment (rev control)
- Apply and maintain BBSC drafting standards as detailed in ED.W.01
- Mark up drawings and correct redlines
- Apply calculations required for the completion of automation equipment
- Determine power and load requirements/restrictions.
- Risk Assessments
- Support software Commissioning and Qualification (C&Q) requirements.
Customer Service
- Participate in internal and customer design reviews, installations, and service calls when needed.
- Occasional travel to client and plant site locations for design reviews, construction coordination and field verification of designs as required.
Other
- Innovate and use good judgment to incorporate BBS Automation standards, GAMP5 and regulatory requirements
- Support and participate in the Quality Management System (QMS), including a basic understanding ISO 13485.

Requirements:· An engineering degree, specializing in electronics, electrical or controls technology or equivalent 5 years’ experience in custom design per application systems, in automation, control system design, PLC and HMI PLCs
· Proficiency in Allen Bradley or Siemens PLC’s, HMI’s, Servo control, and Electrical design
· Knowledgeable of electrical and controls engineering theories and principles
· Significant electrical aptitude and knowledge of acceptable practices, techniques, safety and codes
· Ideally experience with Inverter, Power electronics and EMV technologies
· AutoCAD experience to modify electrical drawings and schematics
· Eplan P8 or 2022 experience required
· Good knowledge of ISO / OSHA / cGMP requirements and current industry practices
· Ability to work independently or together in a team environment
· Strong written communication abilities
· Travel or extend workday when required
