POSITION SUMMARY:

Position involves the skillful preparation of surfaces and the application of a variety of paints, stains, and lacquers to surface by brushes or rollers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Determines the proper method, equipment and materials to be used in the application of paint, stain, lacquer or other substances to surfaces ready to be treated;
2. Prepares surfaces to be painted by scraping, brushing, spackling, puttying, scaling or otherwise prepares surfaces for treatment where skill is required;
3. Mixes and matches paints and stains; uses proper amounts of pigments, base and thinners;
4. Applies paint, stain, lacquer or similar substances to surfaces with brushes and rollers;
5. Erects scaffolding planks or ladder and uses them to paint interior and exterior surfaces that cannot be reached by standing;
6. Cleans and maintains brushes, scrapers, rollers and other painting equipment used on the job;
7. Performs emergency work in cases of fire, flood, snow, and other emergencies, if determined by management to be in the public interest.
8. Performs similar job-related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

1. High school diploma or equivalent
2. Rigger’s license
3. Valid driver’s license
4. Ability to perform as a journeyman level painter
5. Ability to work independently and perform assignments received from supervisors
6. Ability to be relied upon to be available for work

ENVIRONMENTAL AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. These positions require working indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions and are subject to heavy and strenuous work. May encounter undesirable pests.
2. Ability to work in a public housing environment [within occupied and unoccupied units, common spaces, boiler rooms, elevators, other closed areas, roofs, outside areas of properties] in all weather conditions [hot, cold, humid, dry and wet]
3. Ability to work in an environment with conditions such as sleet, snow, dust and dirt, as well as cramped quarters and high places
4. Ability to work in environment with conditions which may include: fumes, odors, gases, chemicals, dust, grass, weeds and pollen as well as decibels in the range of 30-65

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

1. Constant [over 70% of the time]: Repetitive arm/hand movement, eyesight and hearing, bending and twisting at waist, reaching above shoulder, lifting and carrying 25 pounds, driving
2. Frequent [30-70% of the time]: Lifting 50 pounds, climbing ladders, kneeling and squatting, standing and walking
3. Occasionally [10-30% of the time]: Sitting, lifting up to 75 pounds, pushing and pulling, crawling, climbing stairs
