This senior technical leadership role is responsible for shaping the architecture, engineering strategy, and modernization of large-scale Electronic Health Record (EHR) ecosystems that support mission-critical healthcare operations. You will act as the highest-level engineering authority, guiding enterprise design decisions, integration approaches, and system performance across complex, regulated environments. The role combines strategic architecture oversight with hands-on technical governance, ensuring EHR platforms remain secure, interoperable, scalable, and aligned with evolving healthcare standards. You will collaborate closely with senior stakeholders, engineering teams, and customer leadership to define long-term technology roadmaps and drive innovation. Operating in a highly impactful, mission-driven context, you will influence national-scale healthcare modernization efforts. This is a key role for a seasoned architect who thrives at the intersection of enterprise systems, healthcare IT, and strategic engineering leadership.
In this role, you will provide enterprise-level architectural leadership and technical governance across complex EHR environments:
- Serve as the senior engineering authority for EHR architecture, integration, infrastructure, and system design across the program.
- Define and maintain enterprise engineering strategy, modernization roadmaps, and long-term technical direction.
- Lead architectural governance, technical reviews, and decision-making for major initiatives and system enhancements.
- Establish and guide engineering processes, standards, and lifecycle gates in collaboration with customer and internal stakeholders.
- Oversee EHR platform performance, including workflows, data exchange, cloud services, interfaces, and infrastructure.
- Ensure systems meet requirements for scalability, availability, cybersecurity, interoperability, and regulatory compliance.
- Lead root-cause analysis for critical incidents and drive sustainable technical remediation strategies.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend innovations aligned with mission and program objectives.
- Provide mentorship and technical leadership to engineering teams to strengthen capability and execution quality.
- Support customer engagements, technical briefings, proposal development, and strategic program reviews.
This role requires deep expertise in enterprise healthcare IT systems, strong architectural leadership, and experience in highly regulated environments:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field (Master’s preferred).
- 10+ years of experience in enterprise IT, health systems, or large-scale systems engineering.
- Proven experience with major EHR platforms such as Epic or Oracle Health/Cerner.
- Strong background in enterprise architecture, cloud engineering, and infrastructure modernization.
- Expertise in interoperability standards (HL7, FHIR, DICOM) and healthcare data exchange.
- Experience leading technical strategy in complex, mission-driven, or regulated environments.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills at enterprise scale.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence senior stakeholders and cross-functional teams.
- Ability to obtain and maintain Public Trust clearance.
- Willingness to travel up to 25%.
- Preferred certifications include AWS/Azure Architect, ITIL, CPHIMS, CISSP, or PMP.
- Competitive salary range: $178,500 – $241,500, based on experience, location, and contractual factors.
