We are looking to add new talent to our growing team! We are seeking an experienced and accomplished Principal to lead high-performing teams, cultivate deep client relationships, and deliver innovative solutions. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key leadership role in shaping the future of our business, driving both growth and innovation. The role is full-time and based in our Portland, OR office.
This strategic hire is focused on accelerating growth in the Federal market, with emphasis on relationship-building and expanding work with US Navy, USACE, the Air Force, and other federal agencies. The successful candidate will leverage longstanding experience as a federal contract program manager to help win new business and deliver complex environmental programs. DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
In this position, you will:
- Lead and grow the company’s federal portfolio by developing and maintaining strategic client relationships (US Navy, USACE, USCG, Army, Air Force), identifying new business opportunities, and driving significant revenue growth.
- Oversee large, complex federal projects from initiation to completion, ensuring they meet technical, budgetary, and client satisfaction goals, serving as senior leader for service delivery and contract compliance.
- Build and guide high-performance teams, foster a collaborative environment; mentor emerging talent and promote staff development via hands-on coaching and leadership during project execution.
- Develop and implement client account plans and teaming strategies with business partners to expand federal work.
- Actively participate in professional organizations and industry groups, providing thought leadership and advancing H&A’s profile in the federal sector.
- Support regional pursuits in the Pacific Northwest, assist succession planning, and mentor junior staff in federal contract management and technical excellence.
- Ensure that all work is performed in accordance with company and client health and safety protocols.
- Demonstrate the company’s foundational safety behaviors.
• SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
Minimum Skills and Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in geology or related discipline.
- Licensed Geologist and PMP certification.
- 15+ years as a Federal Contract Program Manager, with leadership delivery on major federal contracts.
- Demonstrated expertise in business development and client relationship management in the federal marketplace.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, ability to convey complex project concepts to clients, agencies, and stakeholders.
- Proven leadership experience in building and managing diverse teams, mentoring staff, and fostering collaboration.
Preferred Skills:
- Significant experience in ports, harbors, and coastal projects, and brownfields initiatives.
- Experience presenting at conferences or contributing thought leadership within professional organizations.
- Familiarity with local and federal environmental regulations and agency policies.
- A passion for continuous learning, staying at the forefront of federal market developments, and contributing to innovation within the company.
