The Director of Development for the Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences and the College of General Studies is responsible for securing major gifts of $100,000 and above to advance the mission and priorities of these academic units. Reporting to the Executive Director of Development and working closely with the leaders within the school, this role requires a strategic relationship builder who can translate academic excellence into compelling philanthropic opportunities while managing complex stakeholder relationships.

The Director will identify, qualify, cultivate, and solicit individual donors; lead the school's stewardship programs; supervise Donor Relations and Stewardship Associate(s); and serve as primary liaison between school-based and central development teams. This position operates with significant autonomy, requiring the ability to balance competing priorities.

Job Summary

Oversees development of a program, plans, and activities to create and execute a comprehensive development plan achieving new and recurring contributions to a school, foundation, program, and/or group. Manages a portfolio of major gift donors and strategically builds fundraising prospects. Assists leadership in facilitating a comprehensive communications plan and with development strategies.


Essential Functions
  • Identify, qualify, cultivate, and solicit individual donors to secure gifts of $100,000 and above through substantive in-person and virtual meetings, proposal development, and strategic relationship management.
  • Lead the school's comprehensive stewardship program to ensure meaningful donor experiences and continued philanthropic investment.
  • Serve as primary coordinator between school-based development efforts and central gift officers, working closely with the Dean, department chairs, faculty, and PAE colleagues to align fundraising strategies and maximize philanthropic impact.
  • Supervise and develop Donor Relations and Stewardship Associate(s), providing guidance, setting performance goals, and fostering a collaborative, results-oriented team culture.

Light - Little physical effort required. Duties are primarily sedentary. May be required to move objects up to 25 pounds occasionally

Work Arrangement: Hybrid: Combination of On-Campus and Remote work as determined by the department.

Hiring Range: $95,000-$115,000
