About This Position

Description:

The registered nurse (RN) plays a crucial role in providing essential care and support to patients while collaborating with other healthcare professionals, such as Health Center Managers, Patient Access Coordinator, and the Director of Clinical Training. RNs are responsible for a wide range of duties, from flow facilitation, direct patient care, and administrative tasks, all aimed at ensuring the well-being of their patients. ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Conduct orientation and training for new health center staff, focusing on interviewing techniques, clinical skills, patient education, laboratory procedures, computer proficiency, and other relevant areas. Support the Director of Clinical Training in the creation and revision of orientation checklists, educational materials, guidelines, and protocols according to current best practices.
  • Provide ongoing training, mentorship and support to clinical staff, fostering professional growth and development.
  • Works closely with Health Center Managers, and Director of Clinical Training to identify educational needs and align initiatives with organizational goals.
  • Collaborates with the HCMs to ensure 30/60/90-day check-ins during the orientation timeframe for all new medical assistants and licensed practical nurses.
  • Collaborate with HCMs to complete performance reviews and skills checklists for all medical assistants and licensed practical nurses.
  • Performs monthly emergency cart, AED and Check Emergency Battery packs and medication checks.
  • Provides training to Medical Assistants and Licensed Medical Staff on in-clinic termination room preparation, procedural assistance, products of conception handling, and recovery room processes, and is responsible for the management of termination and recovery room spaces.
  • Actively participates in the infection control committee with duties as assigned, including infection control audits as designated.
  • Facilitate and manage health center patient flow and efficiencies.
  • Perform comprehensive assessments of patients’, including monitoring of vital signs, gathering medical history, and collaborating with providers to assist in care planning.
  • Initiate IVs and Administer medications, including injections, and document in the medical record per PPNCNY, PPFA, DOH, and NAF guidelines.
  • Collect blood and urine specimens, perform pregnancy tests, urine dips, and hemoglobin tests using aseptic techniques and universal precautions.
  • Will Perform ultrasounds under the guidance of the Ultrasound Program Director.
  • Offer education and counseling on family planning, reproductive health, abortion, colposcopy, LEEP, STI’s, etc.
  • Assists with centralized follow-up and PP Direct duties responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements:

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Must be adaptable to accommodate the evolving needs of the organization.
  • Ability to work well under pressure with minimal supervision.
  • Willingness to work evenings and/or weekends.
  • Fundamental to intermediate computer knowledge and skills.
  • Acceptance and understanding of PPNCNY’s Personnel Policies.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule with ability to travel, including for abortion clinics to multiple sites when needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Registered Nurse currently licensed to practice in NYS
  • Education: At least one year of RN experience
  • Prior experience in reproductive health or clinic setting preferred.
  • Current certification in BLS/CPR
  • Valid Driver’s License

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Lift/carry 10 lbs. or less frequently, and up to 50 lbs. occasionally
  • Bend/squat/kneel frequently
