About This Position

Position Summary

The Diesel Mechanic is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of diesel-powered vehicles and heavy equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation. This role includes troubleshooting mechanical issues, performing preventive maintenance, and conducting major and minor repairs in compliance with manufacturer specifications, DOT requirements, and company standards. The Diesel Mechanic works closely with shop leadership to minimize equipment downtime and maximize fleet reliability.

Key Duties & Responsibilities
  • Inspect, diagnose, and repair diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulics, brakes, steering systems, and electrical systems.
  • Perform preventive maintenance services, including oil changes, lubrication, and filter replacement.
  • Troubleshoot and repair fuel systems, exhaust systems, cooling systems, and suspension components.
  • Conduct DOT inspections and ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
  • Utilize diagnostic tools and software to identify mechanical and electrical issues.
  • Order parts and maintain accurate records of repairs, maintenance, and inspections.
  • Keep work areas clean, safe, and organized in accordance with OSHA standards.
  • Operate various tools and equipment, including lifts, welders, grinders, and other repair tools.
  • Test-drive vehicles and equipment to ensure repairs have been properly completed.
  • Assist with emergency road service calls when needed.
  • Communicate effectively with shop foremen, fleet managers, and equipment operators regarding needed repairs and timelines.

Follow all company safety policies and wear appropriate PPE.

Qualifications & Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certification or trade school training preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience as a diesel mechanic or in a related heavy equipment repair role.
  • Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and related components.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, diagrams, and schematics.
  • Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and repair equipment.
  • Valid driver’s license required; CDL preferred; clean 10 year MVR.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
  • Work is performed in a shop environment with exposure to noise, fumes, dust, grease, and heavy machinery.
  • Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs. and perform repetitive bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periods.
  • May require work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Ability to work overtime, evenings, and weekends as needed.
