We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Accounting Clerk / Staff Accountant to join our team. The ideal candidate will be an effective multitasker with strong communication and time management skills and a commitment to accuracy and compliance. This position plays a critical role in maintaining financial integrity, ensuring adherence to GAAP standards, and supporting the organization’s financial operations.
The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting the accounting department with a variety of professional-level accounting functions. This role ensures accurate financial recordkeeping, compliance with GAAP and company policies, and timely processing of financial transactions.
The ideal candidate should be an excellent multitasker with exceptional communication and time management skills. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring accuracy of financial documents, supporting the accounting team in a variety of professional level accounting duties. Ensure that transactions comply with GAAP and is adherence to company policies and recording financial information in an accurate and timely manner. Requirements:Essential Duties and Responsibilities/Core Accounting Functions
- Prepare and process invoices and receipts
- Process payments and maintain accurate accounts payable and accounts receivable records
- Assist with payroll processing (semi-monthly, based on experience)
- Complete daily bank deposits
- Manage petty cash disbursements and reconciliation
- Prepare and distribute monthly financial statements
- Participate in monthly internal audits of invoices, payments, and petty cash
- Assist the CFO with annual audit preparation and documentation
- Perform bank reconciliations (based on experience)
- Prepare month-end journal entries (based on experience)
Administrative & Support Functions
- Provide financial information and support to management as needed
- Maintain organized financial and client records
- Perform general office tasks such as filing, answering phones, and scanning documents
- Assist with special accounting projects as assigned
Client Financial Administration
- Manage and support client Medicaid and Social Security application processes
- Maintain documentation related to public benefits and financial eligibility
Qualifications- Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field or equivalent combination of education and relevant professional accounting experience
Experience & Skills
- 1–3 years of accounting or bookkeeping experience preferred
- Knowledge of GAAP principles
- Strong attention to detail and analytical skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; accounting software experience preferred
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Experience in nonprofit accounting and/or Medicaid-related financial processes is a plus.
This position operates in a professional office setting and may involve collaboration with multiple departments to support organizational financial compliance and reporting.
