About This Position
The University of Pittsburgh is seeking a qualified Temporary Operating Engineer to work over the summer. They will be responsible for properly operating all mechanical systems; performing selected preventive and corrective maintenance duties as directed; monitoring and operating building automation system hardware, software and sensors and components. This position requires a Class A City of Pittsburgh Stationary Engineers License, Universal CFC Certification and a minimum of five years experience as a licensed stationary or operating engineer; a minimum of three years experience monitoring and operating building automation systems controlling a large and complex physical plant. Operator must have experience with computer based energy management systems and DDC control. Incumbent must be mobile around campus, be able to lift 50 pounds, crawl into confined spaces including manholes and utility tunnels as well as maneuver around small areas and be able to lift equipment and supplies. Incumbent must work shifts and join union.
High School diploma or GED to include shop classes dealing with carpentry or other building trades or successful completion of two years technical school or a minimum of three years of job experience directly related to the Building Maintenance Mechanic functions. A Class A City of Pittsburgh Stationary Engineers License and Universal CFC Certification is required. Knowledge and skills needed to maintain building components such as furniture, fixtures, and floor systems, ceiling tiles, doors and windows. Demonstrated ability to repair locks and lock hardware. Demonstrated proficiency in the safe and effective use of hand and power tools used in the carpentry trade. The incumbent must have the ability to lift up to 85 pounds on a regular basis. The incumbent must have the ability to stand and walk for long periods of time. A valid Pennsylvania Driver’s License is required. Please note: Completion of an FBI Criminal Background Check, Pennsylvania State Police Request for Criminal Records Check, and Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance are required as a condition of employment.
