WaterOne is hiring a seasonal Fire Hydrant and Valve Technician for Summer 2026. The purpose of this position is to assist in the auditing of fire hydrants and valves which includes flushing, operating, maintaining and recording pertinent information about system hydrants and valves.
Pay range for this position is $20.00/hr.
Essential Functions

- Operates and maintains fire hydrants and valves.
- Assists in maintaining truck inventory and in servicing, repair, or replacement of equipment and tools assigned to truck.
- Keeps trucks and equipment clean and well organized.
- Locates and records ties on existing water facilities manually and/or by using GPS equipment.
- Performs tests on system valve and/or branch valve and operates fire hydrants to determine if the hydrant is in proper working condition. Records inspection information daily and can use electronic device to record and download data.
- Operates hand and power tools and other equipment as needed.
Other Duties
- Reads and interprets WaterOne maps. Uses GIS mapping system, computer and GPS equipment.
- Perform other job duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience
• High school diploma or GED.
• Meets departmental attendance and performance expectations.
• Knowledge of traffic safety work zone regulations and the ability to install warning devices to provide a safe working zone.
• Establish and maintain good working relations with employees and the public and work well with different work crews
• Ability to work with minimum supervision.
• Continuously meet WaterOne driving standards. Two or more moving violations in 24 months prior to application disqualify a candidate.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
• Ability to successfully complete a pre-employed drug screening and background verification in accordance with WaterOne standards.
• Experience working/performing in summer weather conditions.
• Ability to read and understand maps and blueprints in electronic format.
• Good computer skills and the ability to use software used at WaterOne.
Preferred Qualifications
• Post high school education in construction technology or related field.

An employee in this position may lift or move up to 5 pounds constantly, 10 pounds frequently, 20 pounds occasionally and 40 pounds rarely. rarely. Employees in this position will constantly work in outdoor weather conditions. Outside working conditions are dependent on the weather, which involves extreme heat (above 90 degrees) in the summer and cold in the winter (below freezing). Work may be in non-heated and non-air-conditioned structures. Employees in this position may also perform field assignments in poor weather and driving conditions and tolerate noise levels that are generally minimal but may be excessive for brief periods of time (hearing protection is provided).
The position requires the ability to move from one location to another and ability to stoop, kneel, or crouch. This position must be able to position self to help install, inspect, remove, or repair various items. The person must be able to position and move through elevators, stairways, ramps and rough terrain. Ability to tolerate operating vibrating equipment frequently, detect leak sounds with and without amplification devices and use electromagnetic locating devices. Ability to wear personal protective equipment and navigate construction sites. Th employee must possess specific vision abilities required for this job including close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, ability to distinguish colors, and ability to adjust focus.
