About This Position

NURSE INTERN

  • Job Summary: A Nurse Intern is responsible with assisting in providing care for multiple types of patients under the supervision of a licensed nurse.
  • Position Overview: As a nursing intern at McDonough District Hospital, you will have the opportunity to work closely with our experienced nursing team in various clinical settings, assisting with patient care, allowing you to apply the knowledge gained in your academic program while gaining practical experience in a healthcare setting. You also will get additional education and training time with our hospital nurse educators.
  • Process Timeline: Applications will be accepted and reviewed beginning immediately through March 23rd. Please attach 2 letters of recommendation to your application or be prepared to provide these upon request.
  • Schedule Details: Departments: (Tentative on availability, staffing, etc. you will have the ability to gain experience from a variety of departments) AC/Med Surg, ICU-Intensive Care Unit, Surgery, Emergency Room, Obstetrics, Family Clinic, Convenience Clinic, Cardiac Clinic, Home Health and Hospice, and Wound Care
    • Timeframe: 8 Weeks
    • Hours: 24-40 Hours Per Week
  • Qualifications:
    • If attending a 4 BSN program, must be between Junior and Senior year of nursing program
    • If attending an ADN program, must be between LPN and RN year of nursing program.
    • Required to have a current CPR certification
  • Pay and Requirements:
    • Pay for this position will be $17.87
    • Transcripts and 1-2 Reference letters (1 must be from a faculty member) are required. These can be emailed to humanresources@mdh.org, mailed to McDonough District Hospital Human Resources, or attached to your application with your resume.
  • Job Knowledge: Is knowledgeable regarding policies and procedures, PPE's, universal precautions, duties during a disaster, and product safety information, all on-line/computer-based learning. The patient population must be considered when assessing job knowledge required by the employee.
  • ABILITIES, INTERESTS AND TEMPERAMENTS:
    • Verbal ability is needed to interpret and understand instructions and to communicate with other caregivers.
    • Numerical ability is needed to correctly tally patient's I & O.
    • Visual acuity is needed to assist and monitor patients.
    • Ability to read and write is needed for documentation on patient records.
    • Ability to adapt and follow directions in a composed manner during emergency situations.
    • Empathy and consideration is needed to deal with patients and their family members.
